Apolladan: Wow, talk about a vocal minority of a vocal minority. WASD has been the standard for over a decade. I can't imagine how awkward it would be using the arrow keys and moving your whole hand to access your inventory, journal, character sheet, or menu. Plus you'd have to move your keyboard all the way left just for your hands not to be cramped.

DarN: Using WASD is just as awkard for me as using the arrow keys is for you. I remap inventory, etc to home, del, and so on. I also use the numpad keys for certain actions.

Just cause it's default doesn't mean it's right. Getting keybinding to work is game development 101 IMO.
. . . same here. As a user's introduction to the game in this day and age, the lack of user-definable key bindings just produces the sense that the game was not finished, that it is in 'beta' or something.

Now, about the above 'ini settings'. Haven't had to do this in a while, can i just copy the above settings and paste them into the user.ini file and save it? Is that it? Thanks for everyone's help here.
Just unbelievable! If I'm paying for a game, I want it to conform to my preferences not the other way around. If I had known there were no remappable keybindings, I would not have purchased this game at this point. Just a bad first impression.

There ARE remappable keybindings, they're just limited. You can bypass these limitations by editing the ini file as described above.

I play with the arrows, with almost every key next to the arrows. You try to play with a projector, in total darkness, with WASD. I completely turn off the light, the proyector looks better , sometimes even covering the display of my PC case .

In 10 years only a couple of games have prevented me remap the keys. Two crappy console ports ;) .

I can play with WASD, but it is the first time to me in an a PC exclusive game or is even a somewhat decent console port. You can look around any game that comes to mind, and in all cases , the arrows can be used.

And finally , a lot of people employ a diferent key mapping or a diferent mouse mapping . In TW1 there is not possible invert the mouse , change the mouse mapping etc . This is the worse support of mouse and keyboard that I can see in my life , in any exclusive PC game or even a decent port to console .

PS : oh yeah , the conf files . Tipical tweaking in PC . I love PC tweaking and modding, but this lack is no sense .

I'm holding mouse with my left hand, and my right hand is on... yes! arrows! And arrows are here since beginning. Not only decade. Wolfenstein 3D didn't come with WSAD.

Of course we rebind all keys, including inventory, weapons, actions - and we love PC because this.

Well, I remember back in the eighties, we had to spend hours writing batch files to get games to play, sound cards and mice to work. It was very frustrating to say the least. But by god , man, this is 2011, We shouldn't have to edit an ini file to bind the keyboard.

I hope in one of the next patches will be a fix for keyboard mapping (and a fix for 4:3 and 5:4 Monitors [Black borders]). Most of the Keys i want to Map cannot be mapped in the Launcher and changing the .ini is very Complicated.

NOTE: you must change the values above in your user.ini file inside the DOCUMENTS folder (documents\witcher2\), NOT in the main instalation folder.

LOL! I know . . . my keys are finally custom mapped, from what i saw of the intro before i ran into all this the sound and graphics are Excellent, i think i am now finally able to begin playing this thing . . . :-)

. . . well, just went into it to try playing, and my arrow keys are still not correctly assigned! I have left and right arrows providing left and right movement, but no forward/backward from the up and down keys . . . :-(

I just got word from CDP RED, they will address this in a hotfix patch in a matter of days. Treat this as an official statement on their part.

Rammurg: I'm also having a major issue with key remapping - I use a "mirrored" WASD setup as a leftie (used it in Witcher 1 as well), in the form of PLÖÄ. Unfortunately, at least Ö and Ä are unbindable (no error message, just doesn't recognize)..
Same here, just the keys are PL;' similarly of which ; and ' aren't bindable. Someone mentioned not being able to bind M, in addition, at least I, J, and C aren't user-bindable. Worked in Witcher 1 and just about everything else I play, which is why:

^ I'm glad to hear this. Luckily I've got a savegame in Witcher 1, Chapter V to work on until the hotfix is released.
