This is another fly in the ointment in what otherwise would be at least a very good game. Just one single way to skin a cat, and with no hints about what that way is. You are SUPPOSED to guess that you have to use Yrden on tentacles with reddish bulges, and then to cut them at these bulges, and then not to try any other damage, but jump from the ruined bridge to trigger the QTE sequence (which, I think, is another successful attempt at RPG bastardization). Most disappointing.

Well you are being told to use Yrden by Síle, after failing to trap the middle tentacles, I reckon you can figure out what to do in a reasonable amount of time.

My reaction after this fight wasn't "this was too hard" but "boy was I oblivious towards the visual cues" - I found the whole Kayran fight quite satisfactory and wouldn't have believed that i could just hack away at a massive beast like this with my silver toothpick.

Has anyone tried to use the Kayran trap, btw?

The Kayran trap is probably too expensive to use on Hard, but in case you're wondering, having it with you allows you to blow up either tentacle next to the two middle ones for free. Just gotta be careful to time the arming of it.

Took me a while to figure out how you were supposed to dodge, but after that I found I enjoyed the fight quite a bit. I've played a fair number of games in my days, and I figured that going toe-to-toe with such a big monster simply wouldn't be allowed by the game engine - so instead I looked for bright, shiny spots to aim for...

iamin7ove: Btw, i have 2 questions...hmm the poison resistance pot is like only 5% useful in battle yes? since the atk that have poison is very rare.
I feel like being ripped off =o=.
The potion gives a 2000% bonus to poison resist. I don't know if it's worth saving or not; as far as I could tell only the puke attack caused poisoning, and it was easy enough to dodge - and deadly enough if you got hit even with the potion.

You shouldn't feel dumb because you had trouble with the Kayran. The method you use to defeat it isn't exactly made clear, even with Sile telling you to use Yrden.
low rated

What BS, The mage TELLS you to use ARDEN right at the beginning, stick to the wii, as simple instructions are too much for you apparentl;y
i saw that fight on a video , it looks hard

Oh, yeah, one more thing which took me some googling to find out: there are two loot nodes on the corpse. That way you can get both the armor and the armor patch.
Thanks for the loot node tip. +rep
Just a minor nitpick (and probably a typo of yours), but isn't it YRDEN ?

Hmm. I quickloaded and went back to check again - it seems this might have been a glitch. Bah, that's a shame.

Senteria: I've died 20+ times now. I can't even kill it's 3 tentacles. No matter what I do my Yrden spell won't stick to it's tentacles. I get up to 2 tentacles gone but the third one is impossible. Even if I just stand still it won't stick and I have no idea what to do. I don't even get a chance to do the QTE.
Hey there,
Yup, that fight was frustrating. I died about 6-7 times. Loaded up youtube, did a search and watched where to stand, to avoid the bonker tentacles. Went back to the game, died another 4-5 times, getting hit by the 3rd arm or missing the 'hit spacebar' to leap off the arm at the right moment. Reminds me of Dragon Slayer coin arcade moments. Good fun though, a frustrating yet rewarding challenge.
Kayran was easy for me once I figured out the mechanics.
Kayran was extremely simple the moment u figured out the pattern before you.

But saying that i feel sorry for the blind people who cant see that pattern because its the ONLY way to defeat the creature..
yeah, i lost about an hour hiding behind any rock trying to jump on the piece of the fallen bridge TO THE RIGHT... 'cause i notice that i cannot run on the piece to the left. When i notice (after 10+ try) that i could "dodge" to climb it to the top... i feel dumb :p
