This is the first time I've had this problem, I've run the game a few times and it looked fine, today I went to run it and clicked the "Auto-detect Best Settings" button (this is the only thing I can think of that I've done different) and it's now running at a much lower resolution and looking not very good. Before I was running on medium, Auto-detect put it on high and even if I manually put it back to medium the problem persists.

I'm using an ATI 5850 running at 1920x1080, but the options for the Witcher 2 resolution are 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, 800x600 or 1024x768. I've tried them all and none look as good as it did even yesterday (before clicking "Auto-detect Best Settings"). I've tried reinstalling the latest drivers which hasn't helped. Also, I'm unsure which resolution I was running at before this, it never occurred to me to check as everything was running fine when I first launched the game, but now there are black bars at the top and bottom of the screen and during loading screens and the opening cutscenes, and the launching logos.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Edit: I've sort of managed to fix the problem by going into my user profiles and manually modifying the user.ini file to 1920x1080, but any time I go into options to change graphic settings it still only has the other resolutions I've listed and changes it to one of them, is there any way to stop this from happening?

From what I've heard, there's no way to stop that from happening at the moment. Best advice is to get your graphic settings figured out, set your resolution, and then avoid the whole thing from that point on :)

Never, ever, ever click "auto-detect" for this game. It has never worked.
Ok, thanks very much.

Still, it seems very strange that Auto-detect could have changed my resolution options like that, to such an alien set, with no way of undoing it. I guess an reinstall might, but on balance I think manually modifying the user.ini file a few times will be less hassle.

Are you updated to patch 1.3? A lot of problems involving resolutions were reported with the 1.3 patch, problems of disappearing resolutions that are reminiscent of what you're describing.
Yep, fully patched, although I had played since patching to 1.3 without this issue, like I said I'd played it yesterday without this issue, but I think this might be the first time I've gone into Options on the launcher since 1.3.
Strange. Maybe it's the act of clicking "detect best settings" that causes a problem with the resolutions after the 1.3 patch. That would help explain why it went unnoticed--CDPR employees probably wouldn't click on that button, knowing already what all the options mean.

It may only happen with larger resolutions, though. I just went into my graphic options and hit autodetect, but none of the screen resolutions disappeared. My monitor resolution is only 1440x900, though. Maybe it's a side-effect of fixing the problem with larger resolutions in the patch?
The "PerformanceTester.exe" isn't accurate and nor does it work very well, I wouldn't use it.

You're better off manually choosing the settings.

You may have to reinstall the game, though.
Viglione, what is your monitor size and what is it's native resolution?
When I patched my GOG version of the game to 1.3, I had no issues. 1920x1080 resolution and other smaller dimensions was always available in the configurator after the patch.

Strange!.

(apart from that I always seem to ward against any issues in many of the games :whistles: phewww)

Maybe its all related to having proper Windows updates, latest drivers and so on!
