Try installing the game without antivirus on, and when you start the game and the icon shows up, enable it. Before you quit the game, disable it else you will keep having the same problem. Worked for me

johannes1212: The animations are as smooth as they can get, going by your definition of action puzzle, I would classify Ninja Gaiden as an action puzzle game too then, both combat systems are extremely similar in that if you make a wrong decision you will expect to be royally buttplugged as a result. Witcher 2 has the most responsive dodging/movement snimation system in any game to date, surpassing even those games that mainly rely on mobility based combat like Assassins Creed or any other third person hack n slash,
CDPR really nailed the feel of what its like to swing a sword and hit flesh and bone or a wooden shield.
You think it's due to my framerate then? I don't know could be

Tried that fix and many others. I even went as far as getting rid of the anti-virus completely. Nothing works. I'm not really mad do. A lot of people are reporting the same problem so I'm confident it will be fixed by next patch. I can wait.

Where's the fun in being perfect all the time? I'm glad I had to learn how to use the game's system. If I loaded "at the fore" now I would have gone differently about it than I did, especially on easy and trying to use only swordplay!
i dont think framerate is an issue, just bugs at the moment, lots of little hiccups that happen now and then.
Ninja gaiden is perfect, fable is perfect, AC is perfect, DMC is perfect, i could go on

playing on easy doesn't make up for the combat system.

I don't find the input lag on the combat that bad. I do have issues with the block button, often when i try and use it, nothing happens.
You told me yourself to tackle the 8 thugs on easy :P

The combat system was designed so that it would be difficult to tackle multiple opponents without the help of signs, bombs, traps, potions and oils - those are the tools of trade of the witcher. He maybe superhuman strong and fast, after years of training and combat experience, but still "nec Hercules contra plures" - which was quite brutally proven by a pitchfork wielding peasant in Rivia.

Did you have vigour? Vigour is used by blocking just as by signs.

I like the combat pacing. It's real, visceral, and strategic. I wasn't expecting to based on what I read before purchasing the game but, now that I've played it, I think it's totally amazing. Every sword swing and choice feels like it matters and every fight, including those with just basic enemies, can be unique and memorable in its own right.

I have not experienced any input/output delay that did not correspond with some natural cause, i.e. Geralt is recovering from a sword swing.

I guess this game was just made with people in mind like myself who hate button mashing-action games like GoW and Batman?
If you have lag check your FPS, below 30 is bad for this game and gets worse with more enemies on the screen.

You played fable ? I think this combat system has more flaws
Geralt fights like a wolf, he strikes hard mauls on his target relentlessly and backs out when odds are against him only to lunge back in to finish off his target. Like a wolf hes agile but also fragile

I haven't. I don't play action games (or action RPGs for that matter) in general. I only purchased this game as a show of support to CDP. I think GOG is an amazing service and I want to support it in every way I can in the (possibly naive) hope that it becomes the model for service in the gaming industry moving forward.

Given that, I installed TW2 with pretty low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to really like the game. I like the combat, in particular, for reasons stated above.

I should add that I decided to play the game with a gamepad. I pretty much only use keyboard and mouse but I have a gamepad around from a time when I was recovering from an arm injury that prevented long KB use. After watching some gameplay vids it seemed like the way to go. Now that I've played the game for a while I definitely think it was built for gamepad play. Maybe that's the difference?
The AI is fine, whats wrong with it?

To each his own. I wouldn't even try it, since I don't like gamepads unless I'm playing TIE-fighter ^.^ My experience with KB+M is still very positive.
