Hi guys, sorry if this topic has been brought up before. I was wondering if any of you ever wonder if Hollywood would take the Witcher into the big screen, which actor and actress are the most suitable for the role...

So far as Geralt of Rivia ( Craig Parker) its the guy who acted as Haldir in Lotro) maybe add few more scar of his face make it looks rough :)

And then as Triss Merigold ( Christina Hendricks), I cant think of any better redhead than her, she has the looks , and the body.

Any thoughts..? Havent thought more on other characters like Zoltan, Dandelion, Roche, Iorveth, Saskia, Letho...etc, feel free to add....

I think if they're gonna make it, they should probably pick carefully the director as well, Theres a lot of content from The Witcher series too. If it is made properly this one can be as great as Lord of The Rings trilogy...man I really wanna see the Battle of Brenna in big screen between Northern Kingdoms vs Nilfgaardians Empire...that would be epic...

Or the battle between the Kaedwenian vs Aedirn...and so on

Anyway.....Sorry I was bored thats all, I already finished Witcher2 six times now on all modes ( easy, normal, hard, insane etc)....man I want expansion :/

Maybe it could be done better. Honestly, I cringe at the idea. Hollywood has something like a Midas touch, only it's a bad-touch that's only good for violating things near and dear to my heart.

I can see it now: Michael Bay presents The Witcher, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Kill me now.

It's not impossible, if the game(s) continue to sell well, I suppose. Having films being made by Hollywood, however, featuring American/English actors and actresses, makes me cringe a bit. I think it's more or less impossible to successfully capture the feel of the Witcher on the big screen, unless it's made in its original language. I mean, already here in TW2, the English script is noticeably more cheesy and 'typical' at times, while the originally-intended flair of the books remain intact in the Polish version. So if those are the changes CDPR make themselves, in order to make the English version sound more 'acceptable' to an English audience (urgh!), I can't imagine what a Hollywood production company would do to butcher the atmosphere of the stories involved. Again, it's possible they'll pick it up at some point in the future, but personally I would prefer if it was a Polish production, rather than an American one. Now this is a good idea. Game of Thrones is absolutely brilliant. Still, I'm not certain the witcher series could be treated with the respect it deserves, unless it's a Polish production (previous attempts aside).

Yes TV series was supposed to be very bad basically due to a very low budget it was made by a polish tv company. The movie was a hash up of the tv series so equally bad.

I agree a hollywood blockbuster would be a disaster, they would just dumb it down for the "typical" young american male audience and completly ruin the story/characters/mythos etc.

Viggo Mortensen might make a good witcher.

It all depends on the Producer/Director, really ...
If they are passionate enough about the story, themes and feel of the Saga, and they reach Sapkowski, for example, and make him consultant at least if not part of the project, they certainly could make a good film/series.

I mean you have the typical King Arthur movie, or the Robin Hood movie, it doesnt matter that the producers/director are English, 8/10 times they butcher the story.
But you have once in a while a little movie like "Beowulf & Grendel"(2005), small production but good actors (Gerald Butler, Stellan Skarsgard, Sarah Polley), with a lot of respect towards the material, and though it wasnt a blockbuster, it was a very good movie...

It is of no real consequence if the production is English/American or Polish, as the very bad Polish series -which Sapkowski loathes with all his heart- prove. As long as they are really concerned about getting Sapkowksi's vison right (besides making a buck for themselves) I think it could be all right.

Trouble is you rarely get this from hollywood, only from small indipendant film makers. As you say you need a film studio, director/producer/screenwriter ALL to be pasionate about the project and keeping it original. essentially putting profit in second place on the importance list. I'm not saying it can't be done I'm just cynical that it would be done right.

Now if someone wants to give me $100million dollars I'll see that it is done right. lol

Nah, after watching first 5 series of Witcher ( Wiedzmin ) i confident he could have done better job.
First part about Geralt childhood my "favorite" so far

... yep, by putting the stories to film, Hollywood has ruined such great books like The Exorcist, The Godfather, Jaws, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Shining, Atonement, Black Hawk Down, Goodfellas... oh, wait.


In any case, even if merely translating the book from one language to another, no matter how faithful that translation is intended to be, something of the original feeling will be lost. Going from one medium (print) to another(motion picture), it is even harder, especially when you consider, the printed word paints a picture in one's head, but not the same picture on everyone's head, whereas movies (generally speaking) do just that.

As far as The Witcher cast I can really only see Mark Strong as Roche, the VO actor sounds just like Mark Strong.

As far as a movie being made, I highly doubt it. Here is why: Seems most of Hollywood is run by aging scared old men who are too afraid to try new things so instead we have sequel after sequel after reboot after reboot after rebot. It's sad.

Look at Halo. FFS Peter Jackson wanted to direct the Halo movie and yet no studio would touch is because they didn't feel the was a large enough audience for it. This shows you how stupid most of the people calling the shots on movie making are these days.

I think a Witcher movie/series done properly would be pretty fantastic but don't hold your breath waiting for one.

The Witcher as a movie? No. The Witcher as tv series done by HBO? YES!

I can't say I agree with your cast. The Hadir guy face is too chubby and round - he looks nothing like Geralt. Geralt is a rough looking well-built guy, who needs to ooze with charisma and strength. Thomas Jane would be perfect for this role.

Christina Hendricks is another BIG NO. She's short and too voluptuous to play tall and slim Triss. Yeah, Triss has large bosom, but she is no way as curvy and plump as Christina. By the way, she isn't redhead, since she dyes her hair.

Speaking of my choices: as far as dream cast for movie is concerned, I would say:Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Dandelion, Angelina Jolie for Philippa Eilhart, Monica Bellucci for Sheale de Tancerville and Keira Knightley for Saskia. Mark Strong would be a great Roche. Mads Mikkelsen is a perfect Iorveth. Brian Cox for Henselt and Vin Diesel for Letho. Daniel Day-Lewis as Foltest and Bruce Willis on knees as Zoltan ;-) I don't even want to think about the enormous amount of money enough to cover all expenses.
