Why do people keep saying that the inventory is console oriented...I have been using the 360 controller and the inventory is easier to use with the KB/M. However, I do agree that the inventory is a little unwieldy...

Oh, and sorry for calling you a pirate OP :D

*EDIT* Oh and I love the atmosphere in this game...but I have heard some people complain about that before so you are not alone.

Maybe you're not a pirate, but I will say that Witcher 2 isn't the shortest game, with shorter playtimes coming in around 20 hours. Your friend must be incredibly tolerant to let you come over and basically monopolize his computer and otherwise ignore him for long periods of time :)
I believe the missing atmosphere that the OP mentioned stems from the fact that you had to roam and explore a lot in W1 in order to find certain monsters, search for missing people, etc... And thus you had to endure many rain storms, run through different environments, experience many sunrises/sundowns while doing all the sidequests. You basically lived the life of a Witcher.

The pacing in the second game is very different. It's the same world; it doesn't feel like you're on a different planet, but you're immediately accused of regicide, and there's a big sense of urgency throughout the game (clearing your name, catching the kingslayer, finding Triss, etc) which means you can't just wander aimlessly and slay random monsters as freely as you did in the first game. So the atmosphere here ends up being different from the first game. The Witcher 1 had a tranquil atmosphere that was full of mystery and sadness, whereas the Witcher 2 starts with an explosive prologue that creates a sense of urgency which only gets stronger as the game progresses.

It's because the inventory in the first game made better use of the mouse. You could see it as a whole and manage everything without scrolling down all the time.

I still think that it's a matter of somewhat poor inventory design than being console oriented.

Unbelievable!

Archangel30: Because he feels a need to bash on a game that he didn't pay for LOL.

He somehow thinks his opinion matters in that case :D

Can't you count it as pirating too? I mean you don't pay for the game, like when you pirated it. It is really close to pirating in my opinion, unless you live together.

No. Sorry but that's just stupid. People have been sharing Games with their friends since the 1980's, and if anything, it actually helps promote said shared products and encourage more sales.

It's the same as borrowing books, movies, etc... Are you gonna call that pirating too?

Someone's clearly never seen this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up863eQKGUI

Okay, maybe you didn't mean "sharing" like that, but I've been looking for an excuse to use that video.

He didn't say anything about pirating it. Like he said above ^ , he played it at his friend's house. And i agree with him on the atmosphere. The Soundtrack isn't as "obscure" as the first one, and the gloomy , gritty nights are abscent. Rain is extremely rare, and the game has much fewer locations than the last one. And the interface is console oriented as well, comparing it to the first game that made good use of the mouse. So he has a point.

This!

Btw, textures and design in this game are superb!

But lighting is bad. Bloom is horrible. Eye adaptation effect sucks. DoF is to close. Game is too kitschy! This also destroys atmosphere.

The Soundtrack in the first game is much better. And it is very important.

Concerning atmosphere, i like to compare first Witcher with Wampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. I am a huge fan of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and i make mods for this game:

Atmosphere is very important to me. And i hope that CD Projekt developers are reading this forum!

The debate has got a little off-track, but I must say, all the niggles about this game for me, like no separate voice slider to go with the music/sound effect sliders, meaning voices are too quiet to be heard sometimes, and the UI generally, etc, all seem to be where the game has been written for PC but with console in mind.

I think it clear now that when CD Projekt said "we will only think about any console versions after we finish the PC version" was not true. The game itself is definitely PC, due to it's maturity and storyline, etc, but every technical thing around it, like installation, save file size, UI, etc are made worse by the fact that CD Projekt seemed to very much have the console version in mind while developing this game.on PC.

Self promotion!? HA HA!

Sure, you are gonna buy my mod, so i need to promote myself!?

This mod is created for me, not for masses. But people like it, so i have decided to share it. That's it.

And i'm showing it because this is how lighting should look. This is atmospheric!
