oh, yes, I do agree on that one, it was indeed a good fight! ermm...wait, you can switch back and forth between them? Great! All my problems are solved for the future, thanks.

Indeed, you can change the difficulty whenever you want.

I liked the boss fights, definately an improvement over the witcher 1. I played on hard and died many times but for me winning finally was satisfying. Especially against the operator guy, I so wanted to kill him :)

I found only the boss fights in the first chapter satisfying (Hard difficulty), after that they were nowhere near as challenging as I figured out the combat system (...and realized how ridiculous Quen is, especially after boosting it with talents) and kept getting more powerful via talents. Even the Operator felt like just another group battle with a mage doing his stuff in the background.

At the last boss of Chapter I I was laughing (in a good way :P) at how ridiculous the boss felt after each of my first 10-20 deaths, but figured it out eventually and was looking forward to even harder bosses later - but those never came :/

to be very honest, the QTE in this game are the best and easiest QTE's ive ever seen in a PC game and/or Console port. the only keys used are movement keys and space plus left and right mouse buttons..this is on normal

I have a great dislike to the Kayran(however its spelt) and Dragon. They were simply annoying.

Oh, I didn't find them the best boss fights ever, but don't have a great dislike towards them.

What was so annoying about them, that made you dislike them greatly?

The attacks of the Kayran(spelling) were particularly cheap and at times arggravating. Once you figure it out its less frustrating but it is still not fun boss fight. The dragon is simply tedious and uninteresting. The rinse repeat mechanic took away from the excitement of fighting the dragon. Boss battles are such a tricky thing, most devs fail at making bosses that are challenging and entertaining. QTE in my opinion cheapens boss fights and takes away from the players interaction and sense of accomplishment.

I agree, and already stated in the different thread, that boss fights mostly were let down. They were stupid, again, the problem is not in being hard but in being stupid.
Kayran fight is not only stupid but also an arcade fest where you have to memorize a the sequence of key presses to make it happen successfully or being an adept in spinal cord entertainment. And the dragon no longer decides to burn you from the sky like in the prologue or just squish you by his foot but lands and stretches the neck for you to hit. So... why witcher's hair don't catch fire when the dragon breaths fire? He doesn't even wear a helmet. lol

I only enjoyed Letho fight (even despite the fact that he is playing in a cheating mode, i.e. spamming igni/aard combos 6 times in a row) because despite the cheats it's a normal conventional fight without QTE crap with cutscenes in between.

And this is not the game bashing. Most of the game is unbelievably good (I would say the most non-linear RPG ever that stays by its quality in the same row as BG 1&2, P:T, and Fallouts 1&2) except for a few blunders like oversized boss fights, few plot holes and not very user friendly inventory/alchemy/drinking/trade/crafting interfaces. There are game balancing issues but that's a minor for me.

slophlong, what is easy for you doesn't apply for the whole population of 5 billion people. For me is was not easy but not hard. However, I don't like it because it is a horrible design and not fun at all.

It's people like you, and comments like this, that ruin gaming.

I loved all the boss fights. They were all easy, except for the dragon. That one was quite annoying.

I actually am contemplating not bothering even to try go and "try-rolaod-try again" this fight and hence rest of the game - because it is probably achievable after trial and error and wasting quite a bit of time, but not tactical or enjoyable, to my taste that is.

I don't see how one is supposed to cast the yarden to actually enhance those tentacles getting stuck, and at level eight, I cannot feel much progression at all.

So, care the share the key presses for the tentacle fight? :)

I just think the developers let the gamers down by imposing that pressing right button at the right time, and at right projection, too, equates "challenging" fight. Who cares about "challenge" if gameplay is right dreadful as far as actual enjoyment goes???

the point of many "boss fight" is to figure out the system. some like it, i dont.
it's fighting a pattern and to me it's radically different than any other fights along a game. any game. in any game the normal fights are adaptive. u adapt to what's hapenning and improvise of the fly. use all the skills and tools the game gives ya.

boss fights are a different beast. literally in this game. the kayran was exactly how another poster here said - quen yourself and ready the yarden. once u r hit (dont dodge) just place the yarden and ready quen again. simple.
however it took me 20 mintues or 30 to figure out where i should climb next. the ruins on the right or the open belly in front seemed much more reasonable.

this is why letho was, potentially a good boss fight. he was, just like most boss fights, cheap with his infinite vigor and the fact that in many cases what made me lose or win against him was whether he aarded me or tried to slash me. if he tried to slash me than i'd roll and aard him and hit him a few times. if he aarded me than i'd fall. he would quen. i will lose.
i beat him on normal eventually but due to luck. just luck.
same with killing the two bug queens. it was hard as hell and what made me win is luck. if the damn bug would charge me i'd roll and hit from behind. if it did something else i'd die :\

what helps in a boss fight is preparing potions, but since u cant drink in the middle of a fight than u have to reload a saved game. this makes no sense in a game because geralt cant bring back time. it's actually using the fact that this is a game as a completely valid way to overcome challenges.
i thinks it is amateurish.

hard time in places is also due to my fault . i try to not upgrade geralts health and i focus on sword fighting mostly. this makes me die really quickly sometimes. especially in boss fights.

it's like the game is marvelous and then, BOOM, an annoying point that relies on the luck that u need to finish it. that lucky strike happens once every 20 tries so i feel like i need to wait for that luck and just keep failing with very litte chance of succeeding, no matter how good i get.

that's just MY feel.
