Trying to install the GOG patch produces this error: "Installed version invalid or incomplete." I've been more than patient waiting for this but it's now getting a little ludicrous with all the problems with this game. I'm getting very frustrated.
GOG version installs without problem, try downloading the patch through additional files list from the my account/game menu
That's exactly where I got it from. (

Have you tried "run as administrator" if you are using vista/win 7
Yes, I use Vista so that's the second thing I tried.

Do you have any mods or DLC installed? The patch won't work (as detailed in several other threads here) if you do.
and I know you would not like this option, but reinstalling the game will automatically patch it
So, I have to deinstall the Troll Trouble DLC for this patch to work?

How Can I deinstall it? I have the same error box as the OP.
I've got exactly the same problem. Can't update due to this error and can't launch the game, I always get stuck in the Medallion icon. Running it as Admin or compability mode or both does not change that.
Nor does turning off antivirus software/firewalls/UAC/etcetcetc.
Then it is probably related to DLCs, as I haven't installed any, and it patched without problem
From another thread, post by Caelistas:

Remove ALL dlcs and possible mods temporily from your CookedPC folder in the witcher 2 directory. Now apply your patch. After the patch place your mods and dlc back in cookedPC folder

In my case:

mods:

abilities folder
fx folder
items folder

dlc:

alchemy_suit.dzip
magical_suit.dzip
merchant.dzip
roche_jacket.dzip
troll.dzip
succubus.dzip

I had (only) the troll trouble DLC installed and the patch worked for me.

Still dosen't work for me...

But I did mess around with game files to deinstall the other languages...Maybe it's the problem. Well, I gess it's a reinstall for me... :/
I already sent 2 mails to the TW2 support, but so far i got only the standard "turn your brain on" reply, maybe someone here has an idea:

When i try to Launch the game i get stuck in the Medallion-icon. The process does not really stop working (according to taskmanager the process still responds), but it simply does not start the game.
I own the GOG.com version.

I already tried:
- running the patcher.exe: gives this Error: "Critical error: Installed game version is invalid or incomplete".
- running the Patch from gog.com (same error)
- running the international patch from thewitcher.com (same error)
- updating DirectX (not possible, since the newest version is installed)
- reinstalling Microsoft Visuals C++ 2005/08/10 x64 Redistributable
- updationg video card drivers
- reinstalling the game several times (always passes the file integrity check successfully)
- tried running the game in windowed mode and/or low resolutions
- turning off all settings in the CCC
- made sure "My Documents" is in the default location
- closing any Anti-Virus/-malware software, Firewalls, Windows Defender, UAC, etc. when installing any of those mentioned above.

My current system:
Game Version number: 1.0 (GoG.com release version)
Operating system: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 740 Processor (3 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
RAM memory: 4096MB
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5
Version of video card drivers: 8.850.6.0
Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio (onboard)
Version of sound card drivers: 6.00.0001.6083

(i did not mess around with any files or install any DLC etc, and no patches since it does not work)
Yea, I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is you have something running in the background that is interfering with the Launcher. Maybe trying terminating processes to a bare bone minimum, or starting up Windows in Safe Mode. That's just a total wild stab in the dark though.
