Grintch: Trying to install the GOG patch produces this error: "Installed version invalid or incomplete." I've been more than patient waiting for this but it's now getting a little ludicrous with all the problems with this game. I'm getting very frustrated.
Did you try to install it with your Witcher launcher open...I got the same message..and it turns out I forgot to shut my window.

Ok an addition...I think my error was caused when I forgot to shut off the Windows Explorer smart sceen filter...located under tools....I had shut off my virus protection but still go the error...

ObiWanKejoshi: I already sent 2 mails to the TW2 support, but so far i got only the standard "turn your brain on" reply, maybe someone here has an idea:

When i try to Launch the game i get stuck in the Medallion-icon. The process does not really stop working (according to taskmanager the process still responds), but it simply does not start the game.
I own the GOG.com version.

I already tried:
- running the patcher.exe: gives this Error: "Critical error: Installed game version is invalid or incomplete".
- running the Patch from gog.com (same error)
- running the international patch from thewitcher.com (same error)
- updating DirectX (not possible, since the newest version is installed)
- reinstalling Microsoft Visuals C++ 2005/08/10 x64 Redistributable
- updationg video card drivers
- reinstalling the game several times (always passes the file integrity check successfully)
- tried running the game in windowed mode and/or low resolutions
- turning off all settings in the CCC
- made sure "My Documents" is in the default location
- closing any Anti-Virus/-malware software, Firewalls, Windows Defender, UAC, etc. when installing any of those mentioned above.

My current system:
Game Version number: 1.0 (GoG.com release version)
Operating system: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 740 Processor (3 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
RAM memory: 4096MB
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5
Version of video card drivers: 8.850.6.0
Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio (onboard)
Version of sound card drivers: 6.00.0001.6083

(i did not mess around with any files or install any DLC etc, and no patches since it does not work)
Is this related to the patch?

You cannot have the game launcher running when you try to install the patch.

Since your issue may be different than others here, I would uninstall the game, remove the leftover folders (in the c:\Program Files\gog directory) and re-install the game. It will auto-patch up to 1.1 when you do that.

I always closed the game launcher before patching, still does not work

I already did that 5 times or so, never worked. I also tried killing all useless processes and shutting down all kinds of antivirus/firewalls, never worked.
If the file integrity check would fail i'd just redownload it, but it always passes, and i don't feel like downloading 60 hours again... so i was hoping there would be other ideas
It's a long shot in this case, but try running the patcher in XP compatibility mode.
I already did that, tried several compability modes, with and without "run as Administrator".

Btw should something happen if i try to start the "Activate.exe" ? Because it does nothing if i start it, doesn't even show up in the taskmanager.
*sigh* I'm experiencing the same problem. Some quick googling makes it clear this is a fairly common issu,e
guys, follow these fool proof steps.

uninstall, delete instal folder. keep your save games!

reinstall, the game will auto patch with day 1 patch. my gog game didn't auto update, so I manually updated to 1.1, then 1.2.

voila, all done.

happy gaming.
try uninstall ur anti-virus/-malware program; not turn off.
IS the patch showing for all of you? my list only shows the 1.1 patch -- not seeing the new one on the list and I don't know why.
booze's tip above worked for me.

At least I think, the patcher updated fully and says the game is up t date. Where inside the game can I see the version?

Also, now I can't register the game. Says my password is invalid and it won't send me a password reminder.

EDIT: Tried the patcher again and it gives the same "invalid or incomplete" message. So until I can confirm the version somewhere ingame I guess I'm still only on 1.1.

You can check the readme file in the game folder to see which version you have.

It says:
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings ReadMe file
May 15, 2011

So I guess that's not even 1.1. Disappointment is starting to creep up on me. After looking forward to the game for 4 years I'e now spent more hours fixing it than playing it... :-(

Did you download the 1.1 patcher from your gog account? I don't know if the patcher.exe in the game directory will update to 1.1.

I can't find anywhere in my Gog account (on the website) where I can download any patch. Trying to register the game (from a new account since my old password don't work) from the launcher makes the register.exe upon login.

If you click the Witcher 2 box in 'your account' the 1.1 patch should be below the pamphlet download - the last entry in the downloads tab. No need to register to play anymore.
