Hi, if someone could give an advice.
My problem is that when i launch the game from the launcher(the game one, not galaxy), the only thing I see is wolf head and nothing happens. In task manager I see that the game is kind of running but without any load of anything. So basically it is just stuck.

i have exact same issue, and i tried both gog and steam versions, ive changed compatibility modes, run as admin, all that stuff, im so stumped
I am also running into this issue. Witcher 1 works perfectly under my WIndows 10 system, but Witcher 2 has this issue as noted in the original post.

I am now downloading the six stand-alone installers and will install it under my WIndows 7 VM to see if this solves the issue. I suspect it may be a Windows 10 compatibility related issue.

The game is simply not compatible with Windows 10. I can only get it to work under Windows 7.

Note though that the game crashed for me after exiting. I had to CTRL+ALT+DEL to find an unresponsive application.

I just checked it and I can confirm the game runs without issues on my Windows 10, version 1903 laptop (I haven't installed the optional 1909 update).

Okay. I have the latest Windows 10 install right now, and it won't work at all after all attempts. Windows Version 1909 OS Build 18363.535.

My Windows 7 install worked out of the box with zero changes required by me. Windows 7 is configured with 16GB and 8 CPU cores under VMWare.

Windows 10 has 128GB and 16 CPU cores. This is the actual hardware and not a VM.

I was reading how it might be a bug in the game related to threading and CPU cores.
This is a problem with CPU affinity, you need to limit the game to only 8 thread at start. (it doesn't work with the task manager)

For that you need to create a shortcut with the following target

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "The Witcher 2" /affinity FF "C:\Game\The Witcher 2\bin\witcher2.exe"

don't forget to Change the C:\ at the start if you installed windows on another disk, and put your actual game location at the end.

For me it worked on the last version of windows 10 on 16 core CPU.
Hey fellow witchers,
Forgive me for my english i'm french but i'll try my best to be clear.
i can't launch the game from both the launcher and the .exe .

i have already try to launch it as administrator.
also i have already uninstall both the game and the launcher.
Also restart the computer.

When i click on the green button "play" it became grey for few seconds and go back to green.

i've take a screen shot of my pc's specs.
I hope you'll have a solution for a desperate witcher .

Friendly,

Lionel
