Ahhh. I can't get TW2 to play on my system and now I have really mucked things up.

Firstly, I tried to uninstall hoping a reinstall would help, but now the Gog installer either won't start or thinks TW2 is still installed. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Secondly, I can't play the game as my mouse is delayed by several seconds and I think I am having a frame rate issue as movement is not smooth and is also delayed such that the game is unplayable and I am getting motion sick. I have the following:

Windows Vista
Intel (R) Core (TM) quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33 GHZ
4.00 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6450

Is it all pointless? Or shall I keep trying to run this game.

I did have a Navida card which I recently swapped out and the Navidia card was just as laggy (though the mouse may have been somewhat better, but not much).

I have tried to play on the lowest specs. I tried a few different screen sizes (resolutions?). Nothing seems to work. Patch or no patch, no difference.

Any ideas on where to go from here would be much appreciated.
Your graphics card is on the low end.

Ignore the Gog installer and run the install manually.

It should be in your download location. <Whatever Drive and directory>/Witcher_2/Setup_the_witcher_2.exe

Also try the new Ati driver fix.

well i cannot shed any light on why the game will not install again, only maybe that the program may still remain in the applications menu in control panel. But your graphics card is most likely the cause of your slow gameplay. it is severely limited and is really only meant to run as a multi-media based card for home theater PC's that are used mainly for streaming movies to your home theater system. So i really dont think that reinstallation will help. i would suggest getting a card with a little more horsepower. Sorry for your troubles man.

Too low to run it even on low?

I gather it is still better than the Nvidia 9500 which I thik was my other card.

EDIT: AND thanks for the ideas. I will try the reinstall idea and then pout about my sad card. Ah well. Perhaps I can play the game on my next computer. Rats. At least I know not to pull my hair out tweaking.

not by much man, if at all. just because the ATI cards usually have more shader cores on them, the nvidia cores are far more advanced and are more efficiently utilised. plus the 9500 gt was more of a budget gamer card in its day, whereas the 6450 is really just a modern day multi-media card for HD movie watching

Just to be clear, they're both below the minimum requirements. And, yes, video card numbering is beyond consumer unfriendly. 9500 does sound like it should be better than 8800 (the min requirement). It isn't. ;p

Depending on the wattage of your power unit, and whether you have pci/agp slots on that motherboard, a relatively inexpensive upgrade to a lower end gaming video card would probably make the game playable for you.

Any suggestions? It might be worth a look.
A GeForce 8800 512MB or Radeon HD 3850 512MB is spec'd as the minimum.

http://www.hwcompare.com/10343/radeon-hd-3850-512mb-vs-radeon-hd-6450-oem-1gb/

compares the latter with what you might have. According to that, the 3850 is a LOT faster than your card (4x wider bus, 2xshaders, 2x texture mapping units, 4x renderers).

If you want decent gameplay with good frame rates, i would get either a GT440 from nvidia, or a HD radeon 5750. these are both relatively cheap cards and would net you better performance over what you currently have without having to worry much about exceeding power requirements. But it would help if you list your FULL PC specifications such as your CPU, motherboard, power supply etc. as well as price range. then we can better suggest a card that would fit with your current setup as well as stay within your price range.

I just bought the other card. Wish I had posted first. I am not sure where to find the specs on this computer. It's a HP Pavilion A6752f if that is an answer to one of the questions. I think I listed the CPU above. It is a 64 bit operating system. The rest I'm not really sure.

I am not overly picky on graphics, since I assume you need big bucks for high graphics, but the lag makes the game completely unplayable. Something that will play on low or medium would be acceptable to me as long as the movement was smooth and responsive.

regarding uninstallation => go to regedit to erase every key related to GOG/witcher

regarding graphics => run the game in window mod, resolution 680x750 sth if you dont have the required graphic card. I do. Cannot complain for that.

Your power supply unit is 300 W it seems, which is on the low side.

But, it should be enough for something like a GT 440, which can cost ~$70 if you include shipping.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130612&cm_re=gt_440-_-14-130-612-_-Product

It's a lower end card, but it'll be a vast improvement over the two cards you have.

Anything better and you really need to replace your power supply as well, but I suspect you're not really wanting to get down and dirty with messing around with the parts of your PC.

sounds good man, i hope you get what you are looking for. but like an above poster noted, you can play in windowed mode which will ease the bottleneck on the graphics card. If you find windowed mode unsatisfactory for your taste then i would suggest upgrading.
