Hello all!

My system is: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @2.66 GHz, 2 GB RAM, GEFORCE 8800 GT 512 MB, WIN XP SP3

I bought the Witcher 2 retail version and installed it without difficulties. I set everything on low and I disable everything. I set the screen resolution to 1680 x 1050 (or less). Now I am trying to run the game.

1st try: After pressing "New Game" button a black screen appears and a loading icon (a circle with a skull). It takes loading forever (I was waited for more than 25 minutes before rebooting my PC). Nice music btw.

2nd try: I set the window mode on. Now the loading is a lot faster (I was waiting for some seconds) but the game freezes during the first cinematic (when Gerrard falls down). Screen begins to flash. I can't Alt+Tab or Alt+Ctrl+Del so I reboot the pc again.

3rd try: I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers. I managed to see some cinematics, the game freezes again before starting.

4rth try: I installed the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers. I managed to pass the cinematics, started to play with a high number of fps, the games freezes during the first battle (played for about 1 minute).

5th, 6th, 7th try: Changed screen resolutions, tried other options, the game freezes during cinematics again.

No more tries, thank you. Any ideas? Shall I wait for the patch before trying something else?

Sometimes I wish I could buy a game for my Xbox 360... :/
Which of the latest NVidia drivers?
The 270.xx WHQL's?
Or the 275.xx Beta?

The 275.xx Betas are the recommended ones by CD Projekt and GOG.

The 270.xx WHQL's have issues b/c of the NVidia 3D Stereoscopic drivers that come w/ them.

Also - your amount of RAM and video card are low-end for this game. The requirements for this game are very stiff.

Update your driver version to 275.xx beta like MysterD mentioned above and play on the lowerst resolution and the lowest setting possible. Moreover, close all the unnecessary programs runnning in the background.

Right.

Also, you might wanna run something like FRAPS in the background just to see what kind of Frames you are constantly pushing.

If you're doing fine on a certain setting, than you can change a few things up and down - and see what it gets you.

I'm guessing you'll probably want Field Depth, VSync and SSAO off. Might wanna keep your res' down a bit, too.

Tried with both... Same results.

@electropretzel: Tried with that drivers, closed all background programs, same results.

The only thing you can do is to upgrade your GPU :\

You see, 8800GT is the lowest gpu required for this game and bassicly there isn't a single game that runs fine with it's lowest system recuirement. Not to mention that TW2 is totally depending on our GPU power.
the 8800gt is a pos that constantly fries itself and has the life expectancy of a fly. get a new video card. while you're at it, get a new cpu. that thing is weak.
The game isn't really using the CPU power... I have i5 760 and on high settings the CPU load is only at 40% max.

I don't know about that. I have a member on the forum that I moderate that is using two in sli and has had no problems with them. Incidently, the 9800GT is nothing more than a rebranded 8800GT and pretty much the same card. As for the problem, it could be the card as it only has 512 Mb of Vram. These days, I wouldn't settle for less than 1Gb of Vram. As for the Processor, it is a pretty good dual core. Heck My other desktop is running a Pentium D 945 ( 3.4 Ghz ) with EVGA 9800GT 512 Mb video card and 2 Gb of Systen ram. I am tempted to Install TW2 on that thing and see what it does ( ran TW1 just fine with maxed out settings ). It could well be the Video card and possibly a memory related issue.
After uninstalling the game and installing it again, I applied also the latest patch and everything runs fine!

@electropretzel: The minimum requirements on a game's box means that they are OK to run the game at lower settings or (if not) that the game company lies on us. The game run smoothly after latest patch so it is not my system but the lack of optimization of CD Projekt.
