I admit that I pursed my lips in scepticism when the only homosexual man portrayed in the game (wherein the sexual preference was made clear), was the one who arguably was maniacally evil - and adding that castration scene to the mix (why couldn't he do that to Henselt? I was much more angry at him!) - but I really don't want to sit around here, talking about that.
I'm one of those who really appreciate Dethmold as a character. The way he speaks, especially in English, and his general mannerisms, really won me over quite early in the game (the first time I went with Roche, anyway). I only wish there had been a bit more nuance to him - when he starts off Chapter 2 by screaming like some cartoon villain about destruction and mayhem, I just shook my head in embarrassment - and that Geralt had a chance to, at least to some extent, befriend him. Possibly only in a professional fashion, sure, but still... Geralt's automatically quite rude and unpleasant towards Dethmold, when all he does it want to shake his hand and offer him a cup of tea! He's obviously still evil and deceitful, eventually leading to the downfall of the Blue Stripes and such, but chasing after him would feel so much more if it actually felt like he had betrayed you, in some way, which is hard to achieve if he's portrayed as your enemy from the get-go.
Anyway, I still like him a lot, and the fact that he seems to develop a bit of a crush on Geralt might just be my own wishful thinking, but it makes it all the more sweeter to be around him. :P
