I've reinstalled the game but the woman I'm escorting dies in two hits making it almost impossible to do.

It's not a bug. You have to draw their fire; if you let them gang up on her, she won't last long.

On all the walkthroughs I have seen she can take a few hits, but on mine two arrows kill here.
