So, I was in Act 2, and I went and gave Whistling Wendy the square coin before talking to Dethmold. Now, the quest is stuck at the "give wendy the square coin" phase, I don't have access to the 4 men dethmold promises, and the door to the basement is open.

What can I do? If I try to give wendy some coin, it just initiates the "wendy sex scene"

You can scoff at the notion that a badass like yourself needs any help and go dispatch those traitorous scum by yourself!

Or, you can load an earlier save.

The annoying thing is, I tried to dispatch them myself before (without knowing about dethmold), gave up on it, did some other quests, then talked to dethmold about another quest, then came back to do this. I would hate to lose 2 hours of progress, though I could. Maybe I'll throw the difficulty down for this fight, if I have to. Will it break anything if I do this?

The difficulty settings will not change the story in any way. We'll just keep your switching it our little secret. ;p

No, I mean will taking on the fight without dethmolds helpers...
EDIT: I tried it and the dethmold squad showed up anyways. Thanks anyways!
