I've just installed Witcher 2 (having done the integrity check beforehand) and everything installs OK. I run the launcher and the click 'Launch game' but the only thing that happens is that a box comes up which says 'Changelist: 1 has stopped working' and then it dumps me back to the launcher window again. I've tried running the game straight from the witcher2.exe file found in the bin directory with the same result. I've also rebooted to no avail.

I've got the game installed in C:\GOG Games\ directory and run it with administrator rights.

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit with only one monitor. I've done a search and it seems that this is a problem which occurs to a few people but I can't find out how to fix it. Does anyone have the solution?

BTW, I have checked the specs for the game and my machine is well within the recommended system requirements.

Thank you for your reply. It seems that my game wasn't as up-to-date as I thought! I'd downloaded it from GOG a couple of months ago and hadn't t had any notification that the game had been updated so thought it was the latest version. Turns out I needed to install the 3.1 patch which worked like a charm. Unfortunately the 3.2 patch breaks it again but that is easily fixed with a reinstall and patch only up to 3.1.

Glad it worked out for you :) Actually there is already patch 3.3 out, so you might want to check that out to. Go to this site and click on the witcher 2 art box, it will open a technical FAQ (see if you can solve your issue) and also all the patches. So you can manually patch your game if you wish...

Thanks again for the info. I thought I'd try and update the game to see if it was just the 3.2 patch which caused trouble and the 3.3 patch would fix it but unfortunately no go. The game won't launch at all if I go higher than 3.1. So that's that. I'm just glad I can play the game although now I'm having trouble with mods but that is another topic! :)

I'm on the latest 3.4 patch and this problem still happens for me (and others if you look through the forums).

I only have the installer for 3.4.0.25. Where can I download the previous versions?

I had issues with The Witcher (original) too, but the directx installers fixed that. Witcher 3 works without any issues. I really want to play through Witcher 2 though before getting into Witcher 3. I've missed too much of the story!

Unfortunately GOG doesn't seem to keep any earlier versions up on their servers so unless you have a back up of an older version I think you're going to be out of luck.

Have you tried contacting support - http://www.gog.com/support - to see if they can throw any more light on how to get it fixed? If you do get an answer, don't forget to come back here and share it. Good luck :)

I already tried gog support and cd projekt red support without success.

Does anyone out there have a backup copy of an older version?
