So yeah, on hard, walking into a camp fire 2 times is an instantkill if you factor in the burning status ailment.

Somewhat extreme, no?
You know that walking into a real campfire two times would most likely be lethal as well, right?
Why would you walk into fire and not expect to burn. You could start clicking on fires to extinguish them as you walk by to protect yourself....or just stop walking into fires!

And a single sword stroke would be also yet the witcher can survive several?

It's not a problem of realism - it's just silly that this does more damage than most attacks from any other creature in the game.

Considering the weird stop/start movement Geralt has, that can sometimes be harder than you'd think when I'm trying to choose a specific target to talk to in a group of soldiers huddled around an area that apparently approaches the same temperature as the surface area of the sun.

I always walk when im doing things other than fighting and running to locations. You have to walk otherwise...much like most games....TW1 was the only one I even played that I running was fine for anything.
You can always throw a Quen on yourself as well, then you can stand in that fire until your heart's content... or Quen wears off.

That's what armor does--it keeps a single sword stroke from being lethal. That very same armor could be what makes Geralt so flammable, I might add.

Maybe the fire/sword lethality is a little wonky, maybe it isn't. Personally, I've never been on fire, nor have I been attacked with a sword. Complaining that standing in fire (twice!) is lethal on hard mode is just funny, though :)
Even more amusing in Chapter 2, where after talking to certain NPCs, I always end up standing on the campfire beside them. Ouch.

I always cast Quen before talking to characters near fires. For whatever reason your character moves during dialogue, it's idiotic.

His armor is made of polyester!
Proper leather is made in such a way that it is reasonably fire resistant. Back in the middle ages, they used leather for gloves when working with fire and the early firemen wore leather outfits to protect them against the fire. In short: yeah it's pretty ridiculous. Stuff like that has no real use in a game except to annoy. If you're going for realism, at least keep it realistic - don't incinerate someone as if he just took a swim in a pool full of flammable liquids.

Smokey the Bear knows enough to NOT walk in fire and he's wearing leather(of sorts)
I just got the ability Pyromaniac from standing in fires lol. Gives you +20% incineration.

Yeah this is more of the kind of complaint I have about the camp fires than anything else

That's happened to me in Henselt's camp also - really, really annoying. A second accidental misstep after that pretty much kills you.
