It is little consolation for you now, but look up the posts about Geo IP account settings for GOG.
Sorry you're still in Australia my friend. I'm on vacation to the UK at the moment.

Still, I'm sure a patch will appear instantly.

Avantre: This argument's been argued to death a hundred times over on a hundred Australian websites, there's really no need to rehash it. The impetus is there for a change - the Australian Federal Minister for Home Affairs has pretty much said the polite political equivalent of 'agree to an R rating at the next Attorney Generals meeting (in July) or we'll bypass the states and create one anyway'.
Last thing I read was that the AG's of SA, ACT and Vic? wanna implement their own R-rating, if other States AG's cant/will not agree on the R-rating.

is this why my download stalled with less than 120 megs left to go, and now won't resume? I have messaged GOG about it, but haven't gotten a reply yet.

No, this is completely normal.
The remaining files will download upon release (07:00 GMT 17th May)

Please can people read around the forums more before posting. There are so many threads asking about the downloader stopping before it is finished and people worrying something is wrong.
Just a little quick research can go a long way :)

Really then why does it say on the web site that there are 23 hours to go and it's currently 6pm EST? that makes it a 5pm launch to me.

But we're in Australia, which is +10GMT, which means it will be available 1700 hours, or 5pm. Not 1pm. I wish it was 1pm. Hell, I wish it was today.

The FAQ says that the game will be completly released on 22:00 UTC 16th May, from the FAQ:

[i]When can I download The Witcher 2?
You can predownload the game now. You'll get almost the entire game and, on May 16 at 10:00 PM GMT, you will only need to download a tiny chunk of the installer and you're good to go. You can't possibly get your hands on The Witcher 2 faster anywhere else on the Internet. Of course you'll be able to redownload the game as many times as you like, should the need arise. [/i]

It means that in central europe the download of the final part begin at midnight for other timezones you can use this:

2nd EDIT: In other part of the forums is written that the release date has been postponed but the FAQ page hasn't been updated

All versions are likely able to de-Aussify their version soon after the release, no no worries about missing the Grand Canyon.
