Switch296: A huge amount of people have made this error, probably hundreds, it would cost them heaps of money and cause them a lot of grief, take a lot of time for them to do that for every single person who asked for it.
They have already done so much for us by doing this and it's perfectly reasonable they aren't giving refunds to people who didn't take advantage of what they have done for us. I know that sounds mean to you but really, it's the truth in my eyes.
And I wouldn't advise you to halt the payment on your credit card, it will most likely get your GOG account permanently banned without warning if they have the same policies as D2D/GamersGate/Steam/Other digital services with credit card payment blocks.
Could even be worse than that seeing as you already have their files downloaded, could be considered theft and such.
new_waster: Surely the fact that many people have apparently made the same error would mean there is a genuine issue here that needs to be addressed. It may be costly and frustrating to refund people in order to allow them to make another purchase under a different location, but it'll be even more costly to lose those sales altogether if they don't accommodate a fairly reasonable request. The product remains unreleased, I should be entitled to a refund.
To be honest, if they were to ban my account for blocking a payment I am entitled to block, then that's no big loss to me. I wouldn't really want to be doing business with them afterwards.
As to your theft claims, I don't have their files downloaded, I stopped downloading as soon as I saw it was the incorrect version. Which is beside the point, because the GoG download is decrypted and incomplete, so nobody has possession of the game yet.
Eh, it's debatable. Every single file of The Witcher 2 is property of CDPR and if you downloaded even a few files and there servers say so and then you blocked payment, you have still legally stolen those files. They have no way of seeing if you deleted them afterwards or decrypted them or whatever.
And don't be surprised they would ban your account, every single downloadable content store in the world wide web whether it be music related, video games, movies, whatever will block access to your account permanently if you charge back on your credit card. As I said, it's basically theft because you have the ability to download the file then refuse payment at a later date.
You are also forgetting that they didn't actually specifically come out and say they are dropping Geo-I.P Tracking for the specific purpose of Australians/New Zealanders to get the game uncensored, because of course, that would be completely illegal and would get them in a huge amount of legal trouble. They just conveniently decided to stop using it making the loop hole of getting the game uncensored possible.. get it?
If they then refund your money and let you buy the game from another place well, that's a bit different and they are taking more of a risk legally by allowing you to do so.
It sucks man and I would hate to be in your position, I feel for you, but I don't think anything can be done outside of you opening a new GOG account and repurchasing the real uncensored version with your account settings set to a place outside of Australia/New Zealand (Obviously because you have gone on a "vacation"..)
