Lavec: Hmmm, well according to the Support FAQ,

"Activation and playing the game will be possible:
- at 00:01 hour at the night between 15th and 16th May for the Collector's Edition
- at 00:01 hour on 17th May for the Premium Edition
- at 09:01 hour on 17th May for the digital editions

If you attempt to run the game before the dates given above the program will close without any warning immediately after entering the Product Activation Code."

If those times are PST then activation for GOG/Steam/D2D version is not until 4PM (16:00) GMT right?
If those times are GMT, then it would be 9am GMT for GoG/Steam/D2D, which in the US would be 2am PST

It's reasonable to assume those times are Polish, since they coincide with 7 am GMT (Polish time is +2 GMT), which is the stated time on the GoG faq.

That said, I've found gamers, for some reason, have an astounding lack of time zone comprehension, so further commenting on this issue is probably pointless. It will undoubtedly just lead to a circular derp derp fest.

My only beef is that despite supporting CPR to the best of my abilities by buying it through GoG, we're still being punished for buying it digitally, rather than through a brick and mortar retailer. ie: We have a 9 hour tax, since anyone with a physical copy can apparently start at midnight Polish Time, or 2200 May 16th GMT. Is that a concession that CPR was forced to make to the archaic brick and mortar retailers? Is it something Atari requires in order to keep relations with those dinosaurs going? A decade ago, I thought we were on the cusp of freeing ourselves from those physical stores for digital media. It seems that was premature of me then, as here we are still in some ways in thrall to an archaic distribution system.

It's also a tad ironic that greedy thieves could ostensibly download the boxed version and be playing before us legal digital customers. Ironic in that CPR is a role model for how they deal with DRM (hence my buying through GoG so they reap more profit), and yet they still have a system in place that will punish us legal digital consumers. :p

Likely to make it midnight PST. Why, when its a polish game and a polish distributor, I have no idea. I know midnight PST is pretty standard for American releases though.
saddly im gonna be working at that hour, but im thinking in taking a few days off :D
I would say it's 7AM GMT since that would make it Midnight PST. I'm not sure what the work involved would be if they released it at midnight for each timezone, but that would require knowing your location, which they no longer know.

So I assume since the publisher didn't want it released until May 17th, they needed to wait for the last horse across the finish line so to speak.

Cougarcat: Maybe because Valve is based on the Pacific coast?
avatar
eisberg77: That doesn't answer the question

Direct2drive is based in California (Pacific coast), and they are releasing the game at 12:01am PST, but Valve is waiting till 11:00 AM PST on the 17th, 11 hours past the World Wide launch time. Valve being on the pacific coast has nothing to do with why they are releasing the game 11 hours past everyone else.
Uh, looks like I'll be getting up at 3 AM to start my D2D download. I hope they stick to it...

So they make what most of europe wait just so the US can have it when they want it..Great.
Could anyone tell me what 7AM GMT converts to Central time in the U.S... a friend of mine told me 2 am on the 17th but I wanted to make sure.

That doesn't really jive. I mean, if I had my way, it would be released at midnight GMT, cause then I would get it at 6 pm on the 16th. I'm assuming more that it's that the publisher didn't want The U.S. getting it before the release date.

Hey! How about making Australians wait the longest? Aussies get it the worst but I don't mind. CDP did a great job on TW2 so I don;t mind waiting abit longer :D

Yep, you were right.
Ok here's the easy way for anybody to work it out:

1. Go to TW2 home page
2. Look at the countdown. This is the same for everybody no matter where you are in the world.
3. Divide the number by 3600 to work out the number of hours left.
4. Add hours to now and you know when it will be available for you.

For example, 98000 seconds is about 27 hours and 27 hours from now s 8am (1 day + 3 hours) UK time.
Tha fuuu*, I can't wait any longer before I get insane! Why not releasing it on weekend??? for example now that is Sunday still!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
