There are many time I can't hear the voices. I turn down the music, but then the sound effects are too loud. When I turn down the effects, it also turns down the voice :P

The patch is supposed to add separate sliders, and is supposed to be out next week.

While I never had an issue hearing the voices, it's obviously going to be different, depending on one's hearing.

Many audio cards have audio leveling in one way or another (increase sounds of lows, decrease sounds of highs). If yours does, you could try that as an interim fix for the time being.

If your audio card has a utility that allows you to vary channels individually, you could try that as well.

Yea it's so screwed it's not funny, but currently there is no known way to do this.

I'm using a 5.1 audio card (built-in AMD HD Audio) and 5.1 headphones (Turtle Beach).

I can't really tell if the surround sound is even working. In the beginning of the game when I was climbing up the ladders following Foltest, he was talking and talking but I couldn't hear a damn thing.

Also sometimes I hear something like it's close to me, yet it's actually far away.

Honestly, I had sound seeming to cut off at times, or not hearing rain or a special effect, so I turned it to stereo under the windows audio and then used my sound card to emulate surround sound.

That got rid of all my sound issues. I had started with 5.1 as well. I'm not sure they've officially ever said what sound is supported (ie: if surround sound is even supported). We know 7.1 is definitely not.
Just got to hope it's fixed in the 1.3 patch. I have been PC gaming for 25 years and cannot remember any game that just had a music and special effect slider with no voice slider! That's like having a brightness and gamma slider but no resolution slider, as surely it's the voices you need to hear most!
