Endoryl: Devs/Publishers spend thousands upon thousands of dollars in cinematics, voice acting, etc. The games are almost movie-like. But a decent interface and control system stays too much to ask it seems. Sigh.

This sums up my complaint about games like The Witcher 2 exactly.
This is current gaming. I have no answer for why the audience would rather watch a silly, over dramatic cutscene than play a game, but I guess it sells well.

Also, it explains why games have grown so huge while being so much quicker to finish.

decent(custom) control scheme is coming in a patch next week, i don't know why people are still whining about that. furthermore, it's already possible to customize controls through ini files, but i guess that's too much to expect from the idiots complaining about their lack of dexterity on the keyboard.

there are valid complains about the game, however crying about controls? you've just proven you're not a real pc gamer. go back to laying shitty games with simple control scheme so you don't feel left out.

Really? Through the .ini files you can bind your bomb/trap quick slots? Select a sign without casting it? Cast a sign without selecting it? The amount of customization in controls is also lacking, not just the ability for keys to be remapped. Again, small issues, but don't call people idiots when you are only talking about one aspect of the issue.

These are the kind of posts that aren't needed. They are as bad as the people saying they'll cancel their preorders and get a refund over small issues, or that the developer is sold out because of small issues.

What does a great game with poor controls most remind you of, a PC or PC console-port game?

Anyway, I love the game. Best RPG to date. But the controls really suck, I had to edit the ini to be able to use numpad.

there is nothing really consolized about the game its just a rpg with a shitty menu system and simplifyed diversions. theres been far worse and theres been some better. its still a really nice looking game with a pretty good story and some really tough fights and i didnt finish it in 2 days which in my opion these days makes a game well worth the money. in fact if they got it to look anywhere near as nice on a console i think id set fire to my graphics card just out of annoyance. at the end of the day play it, finish it all the diffrent ways you can pat your self on the back and move on. if you dont want to go off and play something else theres no one forcing you to continue playing the game and full up the forums with drivle about how games are been changed ...hell ive been playing them for nearly 20 years and they changed alot and will continue to change. no amount of complaing or whining will change that. developers will make games the way they want, you want to make the game the way you want go out and spend the small fortune it cost to create a pc game these days only to get it pirated on the day of release and slagged off left right and center cause no one wants to go to the effort of learning to play the bloody thing properly and moans at even the smallest difficult boss fight.

Brilliant. I guess there's hope that a patch might implement a GUI to edit the controls then... or maybe some third party tool could make it less painful to edit the ini file?
Really, not implementing an interface to edit the controls while so much work has been put everywhere else in the game just feels... dissonant.

I've noticed a trend. There are two crowds.

1. The "TW2's developement suffered from console design influence" group
2. The "people of first group are pathetic/stupid/losers/[insert childish insult here]" group

There have been a lot of solid arguments to support the hypothesis that The Witcher 2's development was heavily influenced by a console's requirements as far as control and interface designs are concerned.

Yet, all the people who oppose this idea did so not by refuting the arguments presented in an intelligent manner, but instead opted for the childish and immature approach of personally attacking posters or the group in general.

If you don't agree that the controls are sub-par or that the interface blatantly sucks, present your own arguments. If you lack the intellectual capacities to form cohesive and coherent arguments, then simply shut the fuck up, for your behavior only serves to demonstrate your stupidity instead of defending CPR's honor like you think you're doing.

I am one of those who have been enjoying these PC games with Gamepad support i really enjoy laying in my bed playing games like on the Console but on much better hardware.

Now that i started to play Witcher 1 i see the interface has a lot more options availeble for the player however i find the interface or Control of the game very compersome and i do the same with for instance Dragon Age Origins. i find it way more immersive to play games through a simple interface which are designed with simple controls to work.

Thats said there are games and features which could have been great to include for PC exclusive means like the Ability to write notes on the Map or like being able to have a better interface while shopping items. But i am just happy that the developers gave the Gamepad minded a more comfortable way to play the game.

I should probably just tell my background to be safe i played games like Deus Ex and Baldurs Gate so i clearly knows that a good PC interface is possible and can be very useful and immersive. I wish the developers had gone a extra length to deliver PC players a more intuitive interface but still let it transfer over to a Console like interface. I know its extra work but i really be happy of more developers would do that, At these times there are quite a few people who actually enjoy playing games with a Gamepad and why not?

It will take a few hours to make such a tool. Properly less.

If I hadn't spend so much time in the INI file and I knew that they wouldn't fix it in the next patch (coming today), I would make that tool.

The number of consoles an RPG is released on has no significant relation to the incidence of the claim that console gaming has ruined it.

I won't argue with that but the more complaints will hopefully cause the devs to re-think their strategy!! They fixed the first Witcher and came out with The Enhanced, I'm sure that was because of the reviews and complaints and it was a lot better.. (It bred the awsome Flash/FCR mod.)

If there was going to be a turning point in the Industry from consolizing games then TW2 could have been the milestone to get the attention of big corporate execs, instead they capitulated to the mainstream mentality with a one size fits all product. I hope that they do release a toolkit for modders and maybe get our options back!!
