If your game is installed to Program Files, uninstall it and reinstall it somewhere else, like C:\Games.

This is especially important with OS's like Vista.

If you're still having problems, upload a DxDiag report to rapidshare/megaupload or similar.
its on my local disk 3 on my third hard drive with only steam. the saves are by default in My Documents. I cant move it since its tied to steam. I reduced my textures to high and the LOD to normal and I get fewer crashes, but when i do crash its a straight CTD without the error window. The launcher is still working the game just disappears and needs to be turned on again. This is some progress.

I think you run into that ram problem that 32 bit is limited only 2GB for certain applications.
Anyway you can get around it by using bcedit /set Iincreaseuserva 3072 in the command window. However use it at your own risk. This is a link with a more detail explanation http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1084420&postcount=8

Or you can download this application which bypasses the flag for 2GB virtual memory and it's just active for the current application that is patched. Link right here http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
I personally use the 4GB patch because is less troublesome than having to set your virtual memory back to 2GB in the command line with bcedit every time your done playing your game.

P.S. If that doesn't help then I don't know why else your game is crashing.
Have you checked your temperatures? one of the first things you should check when it comes to constant crashes.

Karol3: I am running the steam version

The game is running on ultra settings with uber on and AA with V sync off. I keep getting random crashes during cut scenes and sometimes after them.

I read the problem is that i am running 32 bit and have 4 gb and game cant handle that. So i reduced my Textures from Large to high and it still continues. I also read that its that there are too many save games in the folder, so I cleared some and the problem still continues. This game is really unstable right now and im only in chapter 1, will this be fixed in the next patch?
Since it's a StackHash error (the faulting module is unknown) this might be a low level issue with something like DEP, which governs the way programs are alowed to load in memory. I don't like to advise people to lower their security settings but you may want to look at your DEP settings... your choice if you wish to alter security settings...

You can do this by going to system -> system properties -> advanced -> performance...

click on settings and the Data Execution Prevention tab...

mine is set to "Essential Windows programs and services..." so yours should work with this setting ...

This might not be the issue and you may not wish to alter your security settings if you find that this setting was causing an issue, but it's worth investigating.

do you use that patch in 32-bit systems or 64-bit systems?

I use the patch on my 64 bit I just remember reading somewhere in the forums of Risen where I got it the first time that it was compatible with 32 bit systems. I'm probably wrong though, so don't take my word for it, unless someone tested by patching the executable of their game on a 32 bit to confirm if it works.

If you're installing your games to Program Files, you're asking for trouble, especially with Viista and Windows 7.

I suggest you uninstall it, and reinstall to another path.

Yes, I know it's a pain with Steam, but you should never use Program Files for games..

Another thing to try is to disable DEP, or try adding the game's exe as an exception.
I set DEP to only essential programs. And I moved the game from program files. still no good.ill give it a try with that patch some one posted.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Have you tried running a memory diagnostics on your machine?

Let us know about memory diagnostic and the memory patch that other users have suggested.

Also, make sure you lauch from the steam client and not the executable directly.

Do you have windows set to update automatically?

Are any other applications crashing?

If you're still having problems I would first suggest that you TEMPORARILY turn off your AV software, (again this is a security setting and it is your choice to alter these settings) - and run the program. If you have Norton for example you can right click the icon in the taskbar and select "Disable Auto-Protect" - and you want to make sure you reactivate the software after you're done trying this.

The next thing I would recommend is opening steam -> right click TW2 -> properties -> select local files tab and click "verify integrity of game cache."

What do you mean by "moved" exactly?

Another thing you can try is a clean boot and run the game.

Google has info if you don't know what that is.
I ran the memory diagnostic 3 times and I have no memory errors. I keep my pc up-to-date and always def-rag. I cleared my temps files, ill disable my AVast and see how it performs. The patch that was suggested had no effect that i have noticed but i will leave it for now.

I moved my steam into a different drive Kleetus.
Moved as in what?

I hope you don't mean copy and paste, and that you did a full uninstall and reinstall?

Anyway, the vast majority of problems are caused from redistributables like DirectX and Visual C++, and drivers.

So, make sure they're up to date, and do a clean boot to make sure it's not a background process or program causing it.

Good luck, I hope you eventually get this sorted.
