eRe4s3r: I am using a cad-proof (means 0 distortion) and print proof (all color ranges 1:1 to print) 24" CRT at 1600x1200 (it can go way higher though ,p) for nearly 5 years now as well, and when you look at lcd's and their hilarious black point value and what they call colors nowadays you'd never trade this screen for anything in the world. (I am 3d-artist )
In fact, when this screen displays black the room is pitch black. When i do that on my 16:10 lcd you can read a book. Whoever called this the "superior" technology needs to be visited by a nekkar.
tehe, I'm 100% with you, even down to the black display. I have a keyboard with a wonderful amber back light on all the keys, I bought it when my my main monitor was a 21" CRT and the back light was greatly needed. Now my main monitor is a 24" LCD the keyboard back light is worthless, drowned out by the residual light from the LCD.
Now, don't get me wrong, my LP2475 is a quality LCD that I use every day, 16:10 of course. It is not certified to the level of eRe4s3r's CRT but it has been calibrated with an Eye 1 so the colour space is close enough to standard for my needs and 90% of the time it full-fills these needs. The remaining 10% of the time, well, I just know the better choice is to dig out the old CRT - the boost in colour and contrast and depth has to be seen to be believed. Usually I just make do, the CRT is heavy and desk space at a premium, but sometimes and especially for some games, I know the difference the CRT will make is going to be worth the effort.
TWitcher2 is one of the those games and reading about "today's" patch I hurried over to see if it included support for the required 4:3 ratio, planning a new desk arrangement I searched. Sadly, no luck.
So, TWitcher2 play is back on hold. Maybe I'll give in to temptation and risk never seeing the game at its full potential, or maybe I will wait for the 4:3 patch - or the release of an affordable 16:10 OLED monitor, which ever comes first ;-)
