Peetz: No offense, Cyjack.

I was responding to the OP's issue. The black bars he sees top and bottom on a 22" monitor running 1680X1050 are most likely due to the vignette feature being on.

I'd like to hear if it worked for him.

revial: Did 1680 x 1050 magically stop being 16:10? :/

Of course it won't work for him. The game only does 16:9.

Next patch, 16:10 is supposed to be available.
yeah it has changed, it is not 16:10, it is 16.8:10.5 =P

chautemoc: Again, not until at least the third patch.
Sooo, that would be the next patch?
Release day patch
V1.1 Patch
V1.2 Patch = 3rd patch

On the off chance this isn't just a joke ;p please try dividing 1680 and 1050 each by 105. ;)

in the off chance you don't under stand emoticons at the end of a sentence.... oh wait =P
Look, I'm not trying to get into a drag-out argument over screen resolutions.

Like many here, I installed the 1.1 patch this afternoon. On startup, on a 22" monitor running 1680X1050 I noticed black bars top and bottom of the screen - same as the OP did. I closed out and went back to the options and disabled Vignette.

Result was no more bars.

I was excluding the release day patch.
Isn't the vignette setting what gives it that cool film-like quality though?

It's ok. Some people don't know what resolutions and 16:10 and the game only supporting 16:9 mean. :p
Disabling vignette did not fix it.

I was not getting black bars on my native 1680x1050 resolution before the patch. What the hell.

I don't understand how you were not getting black bars before, the game only supports 16:9 aspect ratios. The only thing I can think of is that you screen was stretching the picture to take who whole screen or it was zooming the picture and you were getting less of the picture because of the zooming, but now something has changed and it is no longer stretching the picture.

The fact is, you should have been seeing black bars the whole time, unless something other then the game was Zooming or Stretching the picture for you.
It didn't look stretched or anything, looked normal to me.

1680x1050 is a 16:9 resolution is it not?

This thread is so bizarre.
Okay so maybe I am mistaken. Either way this patch is a fucking disaster.

Nope, I've had vignette turned off, and turned it back off again when the patch hit and reset everything. Was kind of assuming the patch would fix the widescreen issue but I guess I was wrong.
The endless harping on this issue is really astounding. I'm really not trying to be Mr. Rude here but if you have a 4:3 monitor you're about 5 years behind the curve and if you have a 16:10 monitor (like me) the bars are so small it's like bitching about a single rain drop.

Arg!

Not really on a large monitor. It's a good 4 inches of top and bottom real estate on a 24" monitor

edit: 4 inches total or so
