Dear Persons who play The Witcher 1,

Playing The Witcher 1 bought here on GOG.com.

During meditation I set the medallion to Detect Magic, it increments my meditation time by 1 hour, then I execute, and after the screen is done spinning psychedelically checking what the medallion's detect is set to shows monsters.

I went back to earlier saves, and those do not keep the detect magic setting either.

I started a new game and played through to early chapter 1 and I noticed that during Prologue the setting is kept, but that after Prologue the medallion no longer keeps the detect magic setting but is always defaulting to detect monsters.

Regardless of the amount of meditating (ex: trying 2-3 times in a row to only set medallion detect), or the amount of (or absence of) additional actions taken during a meditation session I am unable to set the medallion after leaving Prologue.

Has anyone else encountered this bug?
How have you overcome it so that it keeps the chosen setting?

I do not know how to solve this problem, but honestly, I've never changed the setting. I kept it on default detection of monsters and got through the entire game just fine without it. I found Places of Power on my own with no trouble, and I don't think the medallion does anything but look for PoP's, so if you're worried that you might be missing something or suffering a disadvantage, I would say that I think you'll be fine.
Just wanted to say I've had this same bug but I know of no solution. I had it on the original version of TW, on the enhanced edition, and now on the GoG version. I've had it on both Windows XP and WIndows 7.

I eventually just gave up, and ignored the medallion for the most part.
Been replaying the Witcher 1, the GOG version, and this is still happening, along with many other bugs....

Right now this bug in particular seems to be making it impossible to find Places of Power, without being able to set the Witchers medallion to magic detection they aren't appearing even though I know exactly where they are.

That is definitely not supposed to happen. I found plenty of Places of Power even though I had my medallion set to detect monsters. I'm guessing it's an unrelated bug. Has anyone else had problems getting Places of Power to appear?

I've progressed further and it's back to normal again. Can once again both change the medallion mode and find/use Places of Power.

Then again I can also suddenly once again use the Order trader for no reason, whereas not long ago he suddenly stopped letting me trade with him, also for no reason. Some might try point to helping/fighting the scoia'tael as a reason but that's not the case as I've been paying attention to that.

Still so many bugs in this, don't even get me started on the dialogue should one do some quests in the "wrong" order, though it's not limited to quests alone.
