I was thinking of getting this game since its only $5 when it's released on Tuesday, but I'm not sure if I can run it. I checked on systemrequirementslab.com or whatever, and it said I couldn't. But it also said I couldn't run Oblivion, which I currently have running very well with several big mods. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me the truth.
My system specs: Intel Core i3 processor 2.40 ghz.
Intel HD graphics card.
Everything else is more than adequate.

OH BOY MY FRIEND, DO I HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU!!!!!!

--> download the demo and try it out.

I hope it works out for you. My computer couldn't run it at all :-/ But you have slightly better integrated graphics than I do, so maybe you stand a chance if everything is on low.
Thanks, I didn't even think of trying out the demo lol. I'm downloading it now. I hope it works.

cool :) Let us know. I'm rooting for you, lol.
It will probably run on low settings if it can run it.

let us know :)
Well, the demo didn't work. In fact, it wouldn't start and a message popped up saying Warning: You do not meet the minimum system requirements. Which doesn't make any sense, cause I downloaded the Crysis 1 demo earlier this year and it at least started. Crysis has far higher system requirements than any other 2007 game I'm sure.
I also noticed the demo was for the initial release. Does the Enhanced Edition change much about the way the game runs? I'm really not worried about graphics, just framerate. I can already tell the game is worth it, so I'd really like to play it if possible.

Honestly this is a problem.

Getting an Intel Integrated GPU to run games is extremely rare.

If you are running into an error message on start up I don't think you will be able to play the game as the same system will most likely be in the full game (I don't know as I have never had that message pop up)

As for the Crysis demo working, did you actually play the game or just get to the main menu. Some games will load the menu fine and then crash out when the game loads the engine (TF2 will do this on my work PC, I can get to the menu but if I try to launch a bot match it will go to the loading screen before crashing out, although CS:S works)

Sorry, I should have warned you! I ran into the same problem, but there's a way around it. There's something you can add to the shortcut so it doesn't enforce the system requirements. I think this is the correct tag to put on the shortcut target:

"-dontForceminReqs"

The game should then start. I got it to start on older intel graphics than you have, but even on lowest settings, it was under 5 frames per second. You should be slightly better off, let us know.

Does the Enhanced Edition change much about the way the game runs?
From what I hear about the Enhanced Edition, it DOES fix one or two situation-specific slowdowns, as well as load times, but the game reviewers exaggerated these improvements. From what I hear, it DOESN'T significantly affect performance on the whole.

Not to talk you out of buying it. I think I'm going to buy it, because I'll get a better computer eventually, and I can't imagine it will ever be cheaper than $5.

Okay, well before I give up hope I'd like to try that shortcut fix. What is the exact file I type that into? I looked in the demo folder, and there are dozens of little files I could put it in.
Gah, I'm not 100% which file it needs to be. I don't have the demo installed anymore. I'm thinking you'll need to make a shortcut to witcher.exe.

So:

1. Find witcher.exe in your witcher/system folder.
2. Right click on it and click "Create shortcut" to witcher.exe.
3. Now, right click on the SHORTCUT and click properties.
4. In the target field, it should say something like

"..\The Witcher\System\witcher.exe"

Add the -dontForceMinReqs tag onto the end of this, OUTSIDE of the quotation marks.

Thus, you'll change it to something like this:

"..\The Witcher\System\witcher.exe" -dontForceMinReqs

Click apply, or whatever, and then launch use this shortcut to launch the game.

I implemented that fix....and it plays perfectly as far as I can tell. I don't know why it said I don't meet the requirements. I'm on pretty low texture and shadow settings, but like I said, I'm not too concerned about visuals. As far as I can tell, the combat moved smoothly as it should. I haven't played too far into the demo, I'll see if there are any major fights later on. But as for right now, I think I'll get it. Thanks for the help everyone! I'll post later if it turns out it doesn't work.

AWESOME!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :) :) :) :) :)

I wonder if the game just flags any Intel-manufactured graphics as not meeting the requirements. If it's running alright now, I'm sure you'll be able to handle the rest of the game as well. I remember that there was a lot going on in the opening scene of the demo.

Alright, I've played through most of the demo (at least I think so, I'm an hour in and there is no indication of it ending) and the combat, dialogue scenes, and menus all work smoothly and i haven't seen much of a problem (other than the terrible animations which they apparently fixed with the EE). Loading and saving even acts quicker than oblivion sometimes does. The only thing that stutters with a bad framerate most of the time is the cutscenes. I'm hoping there are more performance options or mods I can use with the official release to help. I dont want to miss anything in the story in case a busy cutscene turns into a slideshow. So far though, I think I'm gonna really like it.
At what resolution did you play and what graphic settings have you used?
I'm playing on 1024x768 or whatever goes with 1024. All graphical options are on medium or high i think except for texture quality. THe demo won't let me change it past low, and I probably won't want to. I also have anisotropic filtering on x8, but I don't really know what that means. Anti aliasing is disabled.
