Hi,

I bought this yesterday and I'm finding that its totally unplayable and I'm getting 3-5 fps when playing. (moving the camera around changes it from 1-3 to 5-7 but its averaging 3-5)

My specs
AMD Athlon II X4 620 (4x 2.6ghz)
4gb Ram (although only 3.25gb usable)
Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium
ATI Radeon HD 4670 1gb Ram

I know my system isn't cutting edge buts its not exacly crap either but surely I should get more than this? (Running latest catalyst drivers)
That definately seems below normal. What settings have you got in the game, and what are your CCC settings?

Currently I have it down to 1024x768 and all graphics settings either low or off.

as for CCC settings, I presume its the default settings
Are you using the latest drivers for your gfx card? Are your DirectX drivers up to date?

Hardware audio can sometimes cause issues - have you got it on or off in the game settigns? What about sound card drivers?
Also, do you have a Creative X-Fi sound card?

Yes, I have checked and am running the latest catalyst drivers.
I have Dx11 and Dx 9 installed

Just checked the hardware audio and uh.. I can't find a 'hardware audio' option in the settings. is it named something else or am I dumb?

I don't have a creative card, I am using onboard sound and there are no newer drivers according to windows 7.

Note: in game (1024x768 all settings low or off, I'm getting 6-9fps now.. cut scenes drop me to 1-3.. yes 1.. lol)

I never expected to run this game maxxed out but I thought I would be able to play it at least. :(

You should definitely be getting better performance than that. There's clearly something messed up. Unfortunately, I don't know what it is.

A few random things to check... how much free hard drive space do yo have? The game is a beast with 14 gigs of hard drive space used.

Have you been playing long enough to accumulate a lot of savegames? Deleting old savegames can help performance, but usually only once you've accumulated more than fifty or so saves.
Are you in the prologue? I would assume you are. Turn your graphics settings down and try to tough it out through to chapter 1, then crank everything back up. The prologue was almost unplayable for me, but the game's been running smoothly on the highest settings on everything after that.

I currently have 237gb free on the drive its installed on, so no probs there.
I have no saves yet, its so unplayable I quit after a minute or two.

Yes, I am. okay I'll try that, thanks

Have you tried compatibility mode with XP? Might help smooth things out a bit.

Hopefully though it cleared up after the prologue.
I got past the intro and to the first battle in the courtyard?

its totally unplayable at 7-12 fps
I did try it in various compatability modes but no joy.

I've spent the last couple of days trying to get this to run but I suspect my Radeon HD 4670 1gb card just isn't up to it.

I'm not complaining, its not like it cost me a fortune but I am a little disappointed not to play it.

I think I'll stick to my PS3 for gaming, no offence pc users but its less hassle and I know games I buy will work.

Thanks for helping though

A 4670 should have no problem with this game at all. The game runs fine on much lesser cards than that.

There is something else that is messed up in your computer.

I believe the other poster was referring to trying to finish the entire prologue and enter Chapter 1, which apparently had improved performance. But that's a little long to play with such low FPS.

I realize that this isn't much consolation, but your problem seems to be rather unique. Your hardware is clearly good enough to run the game, so I don't know why you and no one else is experience the strange slowdown. I'm assuming that you've had better performance in other games?

If you like, I can send you a savegame from the beginning of Chapter 1, and you can see if that runs faster. Let me know if you want me to and we can arrange it over PM.

I think you're still in the prologue then. There's another quest or so after the first boss battle, then a fairly long cutscene and you'll be in chapter 1. Can't miss it.

Hopefully, if you can get just kinda... "deal with it" until that, your problems will disappear. If you do get into chapter 1 and it's still unplayable, then indeed, something else is probably wrong :(
Thanks for all the help.
I struggled through the prologue, it took an age and I was scared my pc was stressed out too much, anyway I now have a saved game at the beginning of part 1.

The problem is the same, fps as low as 3-5, maxing at 9-12 and averaging at 8-9.

I'll give the game a skip, anyway thanks for trying to help

I know he seems to have given up on it now but it would be interesting to know if other games are like that. I'd say this sounds so bad that it can't just be out of date drivers or DX, it sounds more like there's a shitload of background processes that shouldn't be there, most probably malware.
