I installed "The Witcher" on my portable HDD so that I could play it on computers at my school without having to install it everytime. Yet whenever I try to launch the game on a different computer or a computer that has been reset, the launcher and the exe. file don't start at all. The task manager shows it running for less than a second and then stops, with no warning or error message. I have to reinstall the game each time for it to work which really defeats the purpose and I have tried running in administrator mode before starting the program. Are there more files that are installed on the computer that I have to copy and take with me like the save file folder in "My Documents"?

I understand little to nothing about computers and tech, but I honestly don't think this is going to happen, unless the computers at your school meet the minimum requirements to run the game, as running it from an external HDD with no GPU or RAM strikes me as not working at all. Like I said, I'm definitely not an expert on the matter, hence why I like GOG so much -- they keep my meddling with the tech part of running games to a minimum --, so maybe someone more savvy than me can answer you more accurately. To the short extent of my knowledge, though, I'd argue running The Witcher from an external HDD is not going to happen. Running the installer? Definitely. The game? Probably not.

The reason why I use the computers at school is because they are able to run the game in the first place. They're powerful enough to run at the highest quality setting easily so the game does work fine on them running from my external drive. The problem is that I have to reinstall the game each time I want to play the game on a different or reset computer (the computers are frozen with a system image that resets to that image every night to prevent excess programs or viruses from being installed) which I think is an unnecessary waste of my time.

Can't do it; the game depends on registry entries and files outside the program directory that are created by the installer.

If I were the school administrator, there is no way I would let you tamper with the registry. So, the answer is, sorry.
