Is the Mac version of the Witcher 1 going to be available here on GOG as well?
So here's my concern:
I WANT to buy games through gog.com rather than Steam. I love steam, but I love gog.com more. But if GOG is telling me that you're not going to support mac games (even their OWN), then my preference is going to be to purchase through Steam, which seeems really silly.

Note, in this case I have zero issue re-buying The Witcher, but I'm not going to buy every game twice. Right now I'm thinking I have to get Grimrock through Steam because the devs have said that they are going to eventually support Mac (probably).

You tell me, what should I be thinking? How should I make my purchase decisions?

i Do belive it will be available here, but at some point, not now... :(
sometime when they will be ready for multiplatform releses [OSX / linux...]

it is a little werid that cd projekt's witcher is on steam for MAC/PC but not here. this is not normal and i know [i belive] that CDP/gog also see that 'issue'.

i have both box and GOG version of Witcher. and i will wait for mac version release here on GOG [where it belongs ;)]

and W2 is great also. since price for X360 version in poland is very fair i preordered dark edition [despite having collectors edition on pc] - and soon i'll have my own backup of W2 here on gog.

my point - i think all we have to do is wait patiently and there be mac Witcher for us some day..
CDP/GOG showed us that they are care about their community
It would be nice with an official response to this indeed. I might end up buying The Witcher from Steam anyway, just to support this fantastic effort and maybe it'll mean they bring Witcher 2 to the Mac as well.

One reason I can see as to why they won't bring the Mac version to GOG.com is that up to now, GOG has been 100% Windows games.
Sure, it's been Windows and DOS games they've brought back to life, but every single DOS game they have released would run just as well on a Mac, since both Windows and OSX has full support from Dosbox, but this isn't how it is.

So, GOG has so far opted to keep GOG.com to one platform and it does make support and all that sort of things easier. I wish they didn't, but that's how it is and maybe this means we won't see the Mac version of The Witcher on GOG.
For now while GOG.com only supports Windows, couldn't they still simply add a .DMG file of the Mac release to the bonus content of The Witcher? That would be a helluva bonus item. As a Mac user who only uses Windows for my non-Dosbox/Scumm GOG games (through Parallels mostly, rebooting for Witcher), that would really mean a lot to me and I wouldn't bother GOG with official support questions for such a release.

Of course, they could later officially support it if they ever added Mac as a platform for GOG.com - meanwhile it would be officially unsupported. Just a suggestion, GOG.com ;-)

That's fine, if that's their actual stance (I haven't been able to find anything official). It just means that my preference is going to need to be Steam when I think there is a chance for a OS X version in the future (like with Grimrock). I'm just a little disappointed, because I really would rather support GoG.

Yes, I agree! I hope someone from GOG does decide to respond one way or the other.
An OSX version would be nice, as I have a late '08 Macbook myself. Tried playing The Witcher on it once (Boot Camp), and while it ran, I could only go with Medium, low-ish settings at decent framerate (Core 2 Duo 2.0GHZ, GeForce 9400 256MB, 4GB RAM). But since I built a killer PC not too long ago I just do all my gaming there nowadays.

I haven't seen any official responses on this either, but they seem to leave Mac support as something for the community to solve on their own.

The thing is, as said before, every single DOS game could be made available as a Mac version. And also, a great number of their old Windows games could be made to run with Mac as well, using Wine which is what they are using for The Witcher. But they choose not to, so I guess that's an official response as well.

We don't have to wait patiently, we can just pay USD10 and get it on steam. It doesn't seem to use the Steam DRM, so it works just like a GOG game. I normally prefer to buy from GOG, but Steam has the first-mover advantage (not to mention my USD10).

Yeah, I ended up grabbing it from Steam last night as well. Worth every penny!

I would buy more games from GOG if they had mac games. I prefer playing on my mac since it is downstairs and my pc is up. I did end up buying The Witcher today since it was $4.99 from GOG with the hopes that they'll eventually put their own mac games on GOG.
Same here, I'd love they said something about witcher...

And released vanilla version of old games - without the installer, then I could install them directly in dosbox, without wine...
