Since it's my second playthrough i've been reading the wiki with the intention of trying to complete everything but it seems that my plan to get the Moonblade for W2 has been foiled because I didn't notice the King of the Crypt quest. So my question is can I somehow edit my save file so the quest is as if it had been completed all along? The save editor I found doesn't seem to be able to do this but it did help me extract the save file and inside I found some .QST files. Maybe I could manually edit these somehow? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't tell you for sure, because whether or not the Royal Huntsman gets the dialogue line to offer you the sword depends on a condition script. We don't have access to that script, so we don't know what it contains. It might be that you only need to have completed the 10 quests; on the other hand, it might be that you need journal entries for those ten monsters, and adding the quest file wouldn't change your journal entries. But here's something you can try:

Get a saved game from someone who DID complete that quest. Open their saved game with the Saved Game Editor, choose the "Unpack" option, and then copy their version of the necessary quest file to a safe place. Close their game and delete the unpacked files (except, of course, the one you saved).

Open YOUR saved game and unpack it. Remove the quest file for the quest you didn't complete. Move or copy the quest file from the other saved game into the same folder where you've unpacked your files. Tell the Saved Game Editor to "Repack" the files, save the game, and exit.

If all you want is the sword, it's a simple matter to simply add that, but I think what you want is to complete the slay-all-ten-monsters quest, right?

Good luck, and let us know whether this procedure works.

Edited to add: The name of the King of the Cyrpt's quest file that you'll find inside your saved game is q9031_alghoul.qst

You can find a saved game where that quest has been completed at http://www.mediafire.com/?20zny2m2e22

I want to kiss you right now it worked perfectly! But I'm still not sure of the repercussions so to avoid ruing the whole save I think I will only apply this edit right before I start the 4th trophy quest so I can test whether the King of the Crypt would count as one. If he gives me the perun rune as a reward that should prove this works without problems right? Also should I post here what happens? I'm almost at the end of the second chapter so it shouldn't take too long to do.

You're very welcome, and I'm glad it worked!

That sounds like a good test, yes.

Please do post the results. I've been answering Witcher 1 questions (on the regular Witcher forum, not GOG) for nearly five years now, and someday, someone else will want to know if this works. ;)

Best of luck!
Well sadly this didn't work at all in the end. It seems the rewards are not given based on the quest log.

Corylea what do you mean you don't have access to some script? I thought all the files were open for editing. I was just wondering if through modding someone could increase trophy quest count in the save file. I have no experience in this myself but would it be possible to make some sort of simple trigger to increase the count that way instead of doing the actual quest? Assuming you found what variable to add to?

PS I may have no idea what I'm talking about.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work; I was afraid that you might need more than just the completed quest.

Nope. Only the COMPILED versions of the scripts ship with the game, and those look like this:
ÿÿÿü d- ÿÿÿä ÿÿÿ¬ ý ÿÿ, ÿÿ¢ÿÿÿÄ ÿÿ.ÖÿÿÿÀ ÿÿÿÜ p ÿÿÿü ÿÿÿô (

As you can see, this isn't exactly helpful. And it's not something we can edit; we need the UNCOMPILED scripts.

I was just wondering if through modding someone could increase trophy quest count in the save file. I have no experience in this myself but would it be possible to make some sort of simple trigger to increase the count that way instead of doing the actual quest? Since we don't know what the Royal Huntsman is checking, we don't know what to alter. You're only guessing that there's a trophy quest count in the save file, but it could be checking dialogue flags or some other property.

PS I may have no idea what I'm talking about.
*smile* I believe you. :D

You can add the sword to your game using the saved game editor, but you won't be able to complete the did-them-all quest because, in fact you DIDN'T do them all. Just a reason to play again. :P

I'm a bit late to this discussion (just 6 years), but, if anyone else is playing witcher 1 and wonders how to get that sword if they missed one or more trophies, there is a way. You can edit the dialogue of the Royal Huntsman so it won't check if you handed in 10 trophies. This only works for the Royal Huntsman that's in the cave in Chapter 5.

To do this, you must first extract the game files, then edit the file '_dialogues00/cn_90xxhunter03.dlg' using djinni.Make sure you have the properties window open (View->Properties), select the dialogue that says you killed 10 monsters, and on the right panel you will find "Condition script" and the name of a script. Simply remove that name and save the file. Put it in your override folder and start the game. You should be able to just talk to the huntsman and he will reward you.
Here is the final step of the solution that will work for all attributes (quests, gold, armor etc.)
I'm not sure which part made it work, but here is what I did:
1. Add/delete the item from the inventory
. Note: I don't know if there is a difference between the items m0_it_witcharm03 or it_witcharm03, so you might have to . try it twice.
2. Add the quest file from a completely fresh save to the import save.
3. Repack.
4. Load the new save in Witcher 1, save it.
5. Load it in Witcher 2 (the one with the highest integer, that's the latest one).
HERE. IS. SOLUTION!!! After so many years, he-he.

Tools you need to download and install (sorry, I cannot provide links):
- "The Witcher save editor" or just TWEditorEnhanced -- everyone is aware what it is
- kgff -- is needed for editing some of game save's files
- Leto (I used Leto 1.69) -- neverwinter nights save editor (While researching I figured out that .sav files from unpacked save are actully the same as complete save files for NWN)

After downloading and installing tools follow steps below:
1. open your save file with The Witcher save editor, click actions->unpack save
2; in kgff, open file from unpacked save called player.utc. Press f10 for searching and search for "nNumSlayedMonsters" and chancge the number to what number you want the game think you killed already and save your changes. You can put here max as 10, 2 per each chapter. In Chapter 5 Royal Huntsman checks if this number equals 10. For example, If you forgot to kill one monster just increase this number by 1.
3. In Leto, open oldmanor_5.sav, select "Module". Then click Menu->tools->advanced editor, select again "Module", In Advanced Editor go to Mod_PlayerList->VarTable and search in it again "nNumSlayedMonsters", enter number from step 3 and save your changes.
4. Then in The Witcher save editor open your save and then repack it with files from directory where you unpacked this changes.

After that in chapter 5 you will be able to receive reward from Royal Huntsman.

P.S.: If you want to see quest with killing monster in list of completed, you can unpack your save and someone's save who completed this quest, copy quest file to your save and repack your save with new quest file

It took me 4 evenings to solve this problem, but I hope it will be helpfull.
Hey SN_Pravda,

thanks so much for posting this!!!!

also thanks to the other people who tried to help ;)
