I just finished the game a few moments ago, and have to say, I am overwhelmed at the story presented here, as well as the characters. At first, the dialogue was very rushed. There would be two sentences strung together while speaking without any pause, even if they were two very separate things being spoken about (I don't know if this is because of the English language localization or not), but at some point in the game it becomes very natural, very smooth, for all the characters I spoke with.
This game surpasses Baldur's Gate, because the catalyst for the enemy in that game means absolutely nothing to the story. Here, while it doesn't feel so much like a character arc of Geralt, there feels like a real meaningful story progression that is fantastically crafted. It progresses better than almost any game I've ever played, including Planescape: Torment, although I still rank PS:T as #1 in CRPGs period. The Witcher bumped out Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as the second choice of favorites.
I am so psyched to start The Witcher 2. But with having to redownload v1.2 and EA signing on, I'm going to have to take a break and play some Privateer first.
What a fantastic, memorable experience this game has been.
Is it just me, or does Geralt look an awful lot like Daniel Craig, the latest James Bond? I couldn't get that out of my head.
