I was just wondering if this game support multi core processors, I searched the board with no result... not quite sure my dual core 2.0 Ghz can handle it actually. :\

I think the engine of the Witcher 1 was not designed for multithreading, so it'll use one CPU/core, even if you have 2, or 4 or even more. It should work on multicore processors in general still (you can hardly find single core CPUs now anyway, except the mobile ones).

You can see your CPU usage history, and note that only one core is loaded while the Witcher runs.

Yes, I figured that out. I was wondering if a dual core 2.0 Ghz would be enough if the game is going to use just one core... I don't want to download 15 GB of stuff that my PC can't even handle, my internet speed is a pain. :\

I remember that back when the game was released there was some discussion about it. People on forums were pointing out that reviews said that the game only uses one core. Then a developer said that it's not true and that the second core is used for grass generation or something like that. Then people started posting processor usage graphs to show that it does not. There was a bug that I think you had to Alt-Tab out of the game to 'wake up' the second core, and I'm not sure it was always the case.
I have no idea how patches/EE handled this particular issue. There was a demo. I'm just not sure if it had an 'official' place to download.

I guess I could write a couple lines to ask the devs about, I'm keeping you updated :) if someone with the game already installed could try out how many cores it's using that would be just great!

2 GHz Dual Core should be enough. I didn't manage to "wake up" second core running Witcher under Wine. All I see - one core used.

This is a report from boxed Enhanced Edition but it shouldn't matter. For me it's two cores used without any tricks. See attachment - idle for reference above and the Witcher running below.

Well, official support didn't reply at all but you guys were just awesome, I guess I can run the game with my dualcore.

Also note that GPU matters as well. Performance can be poor if GPU is too weak. Original Witcher demo is still available though:

Official minimal requirements list 2.4 GHz CPU, so yours might be somewhat on the edge. Usually they are higher than real.
