I am trying to run this on a new computer (Windows 10) and each time I install it I get the above error message. Any suggestions as to how to either work around this or fix it totally?

Go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=8109 and download the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
Make a temporary folder on your desktop and extract the files to it.
Then scroll down the extracted files until you see DXSETUP.exe, and run that. See pic:
Once it says Installation complete, you click finish and then you can delete the temporary folder on your desktop.
