Yes, this is about the bug where upon reloading a save Geralt is just lying there helplessly, technically dead (0 vitality) while all I can do is move the camera and quickload.

I'll keep it short - I have no old save to go back to, I don't want someone else's save, editing the corrupted save doesn't work (unless I was doing it wrong), and fooling the game with a trainer is fruitless as well.

Are there any other options? I've never encountered this issue outside the GOG version of the game. Thanks in advance.

I was worried you'd say that. Well, I guess I'll just have to put it on hold on now and start over once I feel like it.

This was to be my first playthrough with the full combat rebalance mod (a very thorough ingredient collecting tailored just to my needs, hence why I wouldn't be interested in someone else's save) and I had other mods installed as well (sharper textures, blood effects etc.). I guess it's pointless to point that out since many people have played with mods and never ran across this issue.

Oh well, guess I'll have to save manually more often next time.

EDIT: So I decided to start over anyway. Luckily the game is pure magic and so it's exactly the same amount of fun, and the "European" feel of the world will never get old. I'm now saving exclusively manually, so hopefully I won't run into the bug again.

I'm pretty sure that the quicksave button in The Witcher is identical to a manual save... at least it was for me. By which I mean, hitting the quicksave button would generate a new save file each time rather than overwriting the old one.

Regardless, be careful of making too many save files, as this can make load times really long and eventually cause crashes. Every once and a while you should go through and backup and delete old saves.

Actually, I think it's a good idea to save VERY frequently. You're right that if your saves folder has too much in it, loading times will be long. But you can simply move the oldest saved games out of your saves folder and into another one; that way, you'll still have them if something goes very wrong and you realize that you need to restart the chapter from the beginning or something.

Agree with Corylea (waves). The quicksave button is highly recommended. It will create a new save for each time you use it, unlike some other games, but you can just delete or move away some of the old ones when the folder starts to get rather full and loading times increase. Having to replay large sections because a conversation went badly or you died for whatever reason isn't particularly fun.

A good advice is also to take proper backups of saves from crucial points in the story just in case you have to go back and start over. The start of each chapter for example, or when you're about to go into buildings where you know blood will hit the fan.

Also, always ALWAYS save after you have beaten somebody in that pesky dice game. Not to cheat by winning tons of money, as some do, but so you are 100% sure you DO NOT lose that win as it's a royal pain in the rectum to replay that stuff for half an hour or worse if the game should crash or you die soon after in a fight.

It is a wonderful game, though, and I'm glad to see you're having fun with it from scratch again.

It does . However when troubleshooting the problem with Lazy Geralt only a manual save will suffice . Same with when you encounter a IFO error the only way to fix it is with a manual save . I generally make about 10 manual saves per act with the rest being quicksaves . I also agree with backing up and deleting old saves .

Whoa, more new replies than I expected. O.O

I successfully beat the game yesterday for the third time total, first time with the FCR mod. As for lazy Geralt yes, it did occur three of four more times across the playthrough but thankfully his vitality wasn't zero and so I could simply save over those moments and Geralt would be up again. Only once it didn't and so I had to backtrack couple saves earlier, which was no biggie.

I must say, the FCR mod truly enhances the experience and makes a 9.5/10 game a full blown 10/10 one. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet.
