Please help a poor anglophone. The only Witcher books available in English so far are "The Last Wish", some of "The Sword of Destiny", and "Blood of the Elves". This sucks, we need more books. Anyways, throughout those stories, Yennefer is the lady most closely associated with Geralt. Judging from "The Last Wish" short story, the link is VERY strong.

And yet in the PC game, Geralt has Triss and Shani as the love interests. I know he's amnesiac, but this is very surprising considering what I've been able to read of the old Geralt's relationship with them in the past. You'd think at least one of the other Witcher's would have mentioned Yennefer or Ciri. Triss'es silence in particular, makes her look very bad.

Anyways, to someone who has had the fortune of reading the complete Witcher saga, does the the total lack of any mention of Yennefer make sense? Is the Witcher pc game even in the same continuity as the books? Please no spoilers, I hope to read the books when they are translated some day, yes or no will do. This silence of the past is coloring the feel of the story for me and I'm curious if this is the writer's intention.

My best guess is that Yennefer died with Geralt but lacked the character shield that restored him for the pc game. Back from the dead and in an amnesiac state, none of the other witchers had the heart to tell him what happened. Triss not telling amnesiac Geralt about the past because she doesn't want to imprint her image of the old Geralt on him is a riot.
A agree. Not sure what the hold up is, but I can't wait to get more of the books in English. Hopefully somebody will light a fire under someones ass when TW2 becomes a smash hit.

I agree, the Yennefer situation is quite odd. From what I've read over at the official forums from those who've read all the books is that Yennefer and Geralt's death was a bit ambiguous and not very clear. If we can figure out how Geralt came back, this should give us an idea where Yennefer is and whether she can come back. If she does, Triss is going to have some explaining to do because she's sort of taking advantage of Geralt's amnesia by not telling him of his past with Yennefer. Remember the scene where she's talking to one of the other sorceresses in the mirror and she things Geralt is still sleeping. That sorceress tell Triss that Geralt is crafty and may discover what she isn't telling him. She may have been partly talking about Yennefer.
The ending was indeed very ambiguous. I think the author doesn't want to explain everything just yet (maybe he's considering continuing it), so the game creators had to work with that. I'm not sure if Sapkowski did the writing for the game, but I assume he didn't. So Projekt RED are doing the best job at making the story development as neutral as possible. They can wrap it up at any point and Sapkowski would be able to practically lift it up where he left it. RED managed to make a new story (interesting for those who have read the books) and at the same time not spoil things for Sapkowski. That's why they're keeping quiet about Yennefer and Ciri. At least that's the impression I got.

I've only read The Last Wish, but I think I know why Yennefer isn't in the story now. I won't post it because it would definitely be a spoiler if it's true(and I can't remember the dialogue anyways) but am I the only one who remembers the story the innkeeper tells Geralt in chapter 4? It sounded like he was talking about Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri to me.

Yes, I've read the two English translations as well, and I remember the inn keeper from chapter 4 in the game. I'm certain the story of the sorceress, the witcher, and the sorceress/witcher/princess was Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri respectively. Given what he says about them, I'm fairly certain Yennefer is gone, and since we all know how Geralt felt about her, Triss probably doesn't want to bring it up at the risk of him losing it again in grief.

I still don't know how Geralt managed to come back though. That was never explained to my knowledge.
From what I can remember, Yennefer dies in the last book in the saga (along with Geralt).

Yes, apparently Geralt is killed by a peasant and Yennefer dies trying to save him. It seems that Ciri travels with them to another dimension (maybe the "next life") but they certainly died in the Witcher's world. The ending of the books is a bit odd.
Why Geralt comes back from death (but Yenn no) is a mistery I expect CDProjekt will solve in the Witcher 2.

PS: The game spoils the ending several times, not just the innkeeper, but too some dialogues with Dandelion (i don't remember exactly Jaskier's name in English version), Zoltan or Shani.
