fjdgshdkeavd: I was the one who criticized Geralt's sex talk. I was actually referring to how sappy he was!

Direct quote: "Triss, I'm not ready to talk about the past." (and this guy's straight?)

Quote #2: "What I felt when I learned you were alive...hard to compare to anything.......except maybe what I feel when I look at you." (bow chicka bow bow)

If I were Triss, I would totally puke on him. Sappy sex talk + Just drank a potion made out of animal claws and alcohol = puke everywhere.

I realize I'm being a bit harsh. Not to criticize the game. I'm completely loving it. If I were reviewing it, I'd give it a 10/10 so far. Not even criticizing the characters. I'm still at the beginning, but I'm already feeling attached to them.
I forgot about that. I LOLed. You're right. The other 90% of the prologue wasn't like that, but they tagged that on real quick before the sexings commence.
I totally agree that collecting the cards makes the action more base; but still fun ;)

With respect to all the attractive women in the game, I find that I pay more attention to them. If the loose outskirts woman didn't stand out from the rest I wouldn't have spoken with her. This uniqueness can come in different forms though: attractiveness, clothing, species, etc. Beauty is one way of giving a character importance. The same applies to male characters.

I also think people should be careful that they don't imply there is an inherent lack of variety in European women. That is the wrong way of saying that the developers made all the female characters similar.
As far as the casual sex goes, I would say it fits his character and situation. The actual cards you can collect, a bit out of place and silly when they pop up.
Luckily collecting cards is optional and noone is forced by the game to do it :)
I will never ever understand people that get offended by ANYTHING in ANY videogame/movie/book/TV Show ever. I mean, why get offended? It is so bizzare.

Note - I am listening to "Does it Offend You, Yeah?" right now :D

Ok, in addition to what I said before about age, they also appeared to weigh between 100 and 150 pounds. I guess it's ok for them all to be European-looking if it's a sort of fantasy world and there's a lot of genetic isolation or something. If it were supposed to be modern Earth, it would be a bit more conspicuous.

I'd have to look at all 12 again to come up with a clearer explanation of what made them all look the same. They definitely did, though.

What if someone wrote a book or movie that directly referenced, insulted or misrepresented you in some way? If someone associates themselves strongly with a group or idea and I bash it, I'm pretty sure they are going to be offended.

It's how you react after being offended that makes the difference :)

With this in mind, I could see how some people would be offended by the cards, but as many others have pointed out it is totally optional.
I did not know that Witcher referenced, insulted or misrepresented any living real life people.

If someone made a game or movie or book about me filled with lies and insults, I would find them and beat them, probably : ) (just kidding, although I would fight for making people realize the truth). But that is not what is going on here.

Sorry, I was responding to your previous post where you said ANYTHING, ANY and ever. I wasn't being specific to the Witcher.

Also, I think it is fairly clear that one of the themes this discussion has brought up is the portrayal of women in this game. Which can be a personal issue for gamers of any gender.

Good, saves me from having to explain. It's sort of like how you know Bob when you see Bob and you know Steve when you see Steve, but actually describing the morphology methodically would be sort of hard. You know it when you see it, or something.

But yeah, I'm standing by my comment in its original hilarious form.
I've seen sluttier women in real life, and in any case the Witcher is a videogame that doesn't have to be taken seriously.
^ Agreed. If we, somehow, find ourselves offended by an item of multimedia, it might be a good idea to consider how our own history, issues, feelings and prejudices come into play.

As for all the lasses Geralt gets to enjoy throughout his first PC adventure, there is a girl in Act IV I wouldn't have touched if given the choice, after having seen her card. I could name a couple of others in Acts I and III who, on the same basis, might not appeal to some individuals. Guess it all boils down to personal taste.
Am I the only person whom thought that the cards were done to avoid doing a sex scene? They show the card and its fade to black. The other options is being they do the drawn out "teaser" sex scenes Example; dragon age sex scenes, or a gimmicky tactect to let you know they are getting it on (The rising and falling car,Really cheesy one liners, etc GTA )

I'd also like to point out that In my opinion, the developers never put the cards in the game to objectify women at all. I'm going to go as far as to say it probably never crossed their minds. Heck it never even occurred to me until I read the earlier comments.
I think what alot of people are forgetting here (and what one person mentioned in this post) is that collecting the cards are optional. I'll admit, after getting my first one with Triss, every, single woman I encountered after that I wanted to get busy with, and was prepared to jump through all their hoops just so I could get their card. It wasn't until I got serious with Triss and confessed to Dandelion I wanted to settle down that I stopped Geralt's philandering ways.

Except that one tryst with Toruviel during the conflict in Vezima. But, in Geralt's defense, she came onto him.
Two issues here:

Why the offensive language in a game when it's not a) necessary to the plot and b) It means that the game can't be played with say, kids around.

I can get b) but it can't be difficult to have a "mature contents off" option which would resolve this problem. Come on developers, it may even widen your audience...

As for the card collecting being offensive, I'm no more offended as, let's say an older generation of male gamer, would be at an all-boy band using suggestive movements at a concert aimed at a target audience of mid-late teenage girls.
