What exact error are you getting? Does it still say you don't meet the minimum spec requirements? Can you post exactly what the "target" field of your shorcut looks like now?

A few things to check:

1) Make sure you made a shortcut to witcher.exe. When you install the game, it makes a shortcut to the game launcher program, that shortcut will NOT work. You must make a NEW one, directly to witcher.exe in the game's install directory.

2) Make sure that the -dontforceminreqs line is OUTSIDE the quote marks and that there is a space between the closing quote mark and the -dontforceminreqs.

First, make sure you set up the "-dontForceMinReqs" switch correctly. See discussion of how to do this earlier in the thread. The shortcut target must be system\witcher.exe; it's a common mistake to put the switch on the launcher.exe target, and this will not work.

If you set up the "-dontForceMinReqs" switch and you still get the warning, you set it up incorrectly.

If you set up the switch and you no longer get the warning, but the game fails to start, your system really does not meet the minimum requirements.

In either case, please post both your hardware specs and the exact contents (copy and paste it) of the shortcut's Target text field. That should allow the local hardware geeks to figure it out quickly.

You may have to let Windows Explorer search through protected folders (Program Files or Program Files (x86)) to find it.

That's an old computer that won't run many modern games. The biggest problem for The Witcher is the graphics. It has only the built-in Intel graphics (and not even an AGP slot), and those are no good for any game (including The Witcher) that calls for hardware shaders.

Sorry, the only recommendation I can make is getting a whole new computer. There's nothing worth salvaging in a Dimension 2400.

That question should get lots of answers on this forum. I'll give specs rather than make and model, so you'll have something to use as a checklist.

CPU: TW2 likes quad cores, but the new Core i3 "Sandy Bridge" hyperthreaded duals outclass many earlier quad cores. So the practical minimum is an Intel Core i3 2100 or AMD Athlon II x4. If you can afford it, the AMD Phenom II x4 or x6 is better, but the Intel Core i5 2400, 2500, or 2500K is much better.

OS: Windows 7 x64 is the most suitable, and there is no good reason not to use it.

RAM: With a 64-bit OS like Windows 7 x64, get 6GB or 8GB of RAM. The fact that there's enough of it is more important than how fast it is. (If you have a 32-bit OS, just get 4GB.)

Graphics card: Graphics card recommendations cause more controversy than anything else around here, but my picks are:

Bare minimum, these are fine for The Witcher but will only do low to maybe medium on The Witcher 2: AMD 5670, 6670; nVidia GT 440.

Recommended: these have been generally successful in running The Witcher 2 well: AMD 5850, 6850; nVidia GTX 460.

Outstanding: AMD 6950 and up, nVidia GTX 470, 480, or 560Ti and up.

The 5670's more than enough for the original Witcher. It's OK for The Witcher 2, somewhat below minimum specs, but will still play the game well at least on Low and maybe Medium. Units with 1GB GDDR5 are the best of these.

What it's a good card for is upgrading existing computers, especially ones that lack a strong power supply. (Not your Dimension 2400; it doesn't have a slot for it.) If you're buying new, I'd recommend spending a little more to get a much stronger card.

yea im getting a new computer in like a month and since u can customize it to a certain extent u can choose the video card u want so imma pik a real good one so that i can play the witcher and the witcher 2 on high quality. 5850, 5870, 6850, or 6870's good, but a 6950 would be significantly better (and you can convert it to a 6970 for free with a BIOS update).

Get a good CPU for it, too. The Witcher 2 is very demanding of both. The Intel "Sandy Bridge" Core i5 series (2400, 2500, 2500K) is outstanding. The "Sandy Bridge" Core i3's (2100, 2120) and AMD Phenom II x4 and x6 are good too.

The solution with the -dontforceminimum.. Is rather unsatisfying as it sets all graphics to minimum without the option to change it. There is a better solution for that. (At least on syste,s with hybrid graphics)
The launcher seems to check the amount of dedicated video ram of the graphics card that is currently in use (which is the internal card at this time - even if the game itself then would use the dedicated graphics card) if it below 500 MB them it refuses to start. By bypassing this check the game starts but as mentioned in a minimal graphics mode...

So in order to make it work as it should:
1. revert the changes you made in the shortcut. (You dont need the bypass with the -dontforceminreq. Switch)
2. reboot, go into your bios and set the amount of dedicated video ram for your integrated graphics card to a value >500 MB...

The game then should start and work as it should...

I'm a tech idiot but doesn't that mean you have to go back and revert your settings if you want to play something else?

No, unless whatever else you are playing needs less video RAM (it doesn't) or alternatively you need the extra system RAM.
