I bought The Witcher: Enhanced Edition yesterday and haven't been able to get it to run. When I try to launch it using GOG galaxy, launcher.exe, or witcher.exe, absolutely nothing happens. I've tried

-Running in compatibility mode
-Making a shortcut with -dontForceMinReqs
-Vertifying/repairing using GOG galaxy
-Setting to run at 640 x 480 (Although this did cause the screen to act strangely for a few seconds when double-clicking witcher.exe)

I've checked, and I'm definitely using version 1.5 as well.

Hi, have you tried just running with administrator rights? :)
Yep, I've tried running both launcher.exe and witcher.exe as administrator.

Out of the corner of my eye last time I tried to launch the game, I saw that a process for either the launcher or the game (depending on which I tried to use) would show up on task manager for a split second.

I'm also using Windows 8.1

Hi again, what about this solution? :)
I have not tried that, so I'll do that and let you know if it works.

EDIT: Didn't work either.

Same problem here.
Tried all mentioned, nothing worked.
Even installed visual c++, no change.

I'm running Win7 SP1 on my System.
I was having the same problem but managed to get things working by doing two things.

1. I installed the DirectX 9c runtime: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
2. I added the -dontforceminreqs flag to the game executable's shortcut, as described in this post: http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher/dontforceminreqs_how_do_i_find_where_to_put_it

The game now seems to run, though it did crash on me once, right when I started the stand-alone swamp mission. I restarted and played a few minutes of another mission and it seems to work fine now.

EDIT: My shortcut is set to Windows XP SP3 compatibility as well.

i have tried downloading (removing previous version) a few time as each time I load it and then try to launch it I get the following system error:

The program can’t start because d3dx9_35.dll us missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem.

What would be the solution? Thank you in advance

You need to install DirectX 9.0c. It's a legacy driver for old games, it installs alongside your newer DX10 or DX11, so your newer games will still run fine.

Get it here (Microsoft site):

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
In my case I have error code 0x000007b when I'm trying to run Witcher 1 on my windows 10 64-bit version.

Your best shot will be to install all of the Microsoft Visual C++ packages: https://pl.cdprojektred.com/support/aplikacja-nie-zostala-wlasciwie-uruchomiona-0xc000007b/. The link is for Witcher 2, but it should solve your problem. Install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Ok, try to reinstall DirectX 9: https://www.microsoft.com/pl-PL/download/details.aspx?id=35.
Well I will try.I also have newer version of vc redist so is it necessary to uninstall 2017 version first and install 2012 version.Because when I tried to install 2012 version message popped up that I already installed it.

it happened with me once...
reinstalling the game solved it..

btw the game doesnt require any vcredist package. (maybe they have deployed it locally).. and worked with the default .NET framework that shipped with win 7 [sp 1]
.. i dont know why it was even included with the retail installer
