My boxed edition that I bought back when the game was first released is dead, and I really want to play it again before investing in Witcher 2. Especially since I never finished it.

Can I somehow register my Witcher key to gog.com so I can download it?

Come on. It is cheap. I had to buy from Gog when my disk got damaged.

The GOG version is NOT the censored version. Not sure where this rumor got started.

To be honest, I would probably pirate it if I were in your position...not recommending this, just sayin'. The GOG version is certainly worth your $10 though. Extras are nice, etc.

So, your saying you should get a free copy because you abused your disc. Just buy another copy and take care of your discs.

My disc is not abused at all. In fact, it has been sitting in the box the whole time, and only taken out when installing the game.
They did patch the game so the disc was no longer needed to play.

Free copy? I already OWN a copy. I know that many download sites offer you to register your boxed copy on their site.

I don't see any mechanism whereby you could register your key here, and immediately dl your game, as it was a retail version and purchased elsewhere.

If I were in your position, time wasn't an issue, and I didn't want to re-purchase, I would contact CDPR at their site and seek remedy there.

Different companies handle it different ways, but usually they'll take care of you once they establish you are a legitimate customer by providing them with your cd key and/or the physical cd itself.

They are pretty busy over there I'd suppose, so it might take awhile, but they seem to be a good company that takes care of their users, so I don't think you'll have any problem once they get to your issue.

Really? What are the addresses, I'd like to have a look over the websites to see if I have any games that no longer run from the CD.

In the case of the Witcher here on GoG, they did not sell you the game so they don't know you actually own a copy, they do not have a list of all the CD Keys, they don't have any CD Keys, CDPR didn't supply them with any.

Your best bet is, as Dischord said, to contact CDPR and see if they can help you out (I know in days of long gone past that companies would replace your disk/CD if it stopped working for a small fee, I'm pretty certain that practice has died out in this digital age).

A side note, I really do think STEAM allows you to do the thing that you want to do. The gog version is preferable, of course, because it's truly DRM free.

But really, i agree with others that GOG doesn't owe you anything :-/ You've never paid them a penny for The Witcher, so they've no obligation to let you use their bandwidth.

Yes, am aware, but often different divisions within a company have their own role, own p&l responsibility (budgets etc.), and transact between themselves in a customer/client relationship.

Am not sure the relationship here, but best bet for remedy is always at its source.

I can certainly understand why it seems logical that one could/should support the other, often the authority/responsibility and even the ability are allowed to rest in the area suited and staffed to accommodate effective resolution, without duplicity within the whole.

Try support at CDPR, I'm sure you'll get help. Good luck again.

btw, as i'm sure you've figured out, STEAM does allow you to register retail games' cd keys and subsequently download them, but not all retail games...and Witcher is not on the list :(

Hopefuly this is not a double post but my last message kinda disintigrated into nothingness and does't appear to have posted. It litteraly vanished after I hit post.
Was just mentioning that I have all my Blizzard titles registered with Battle.net and I am able to down load all my registered games from there ...such as Starcraft and Brood War , Diablo II and the expansion, Warcraft III ...and many others. It's great because I scratched up my Diablo II expansion.
