VoodooEconomist: CD Projekt Red are a listed company on the Warsaw Stock Exchange
So they already don't own themselves, or can be owned by anybody who has the money: Not indie.
CD Projekt RED are an example of a company that did it right. This is how a big company should behave! This is how you build goodwill, loyalty, and trust. This is proof that being big doesn't make you evil.
Goodwill, loyalty, and trust makes good cooperative companies being sucessfull and big,
then lazyness, blind confidence and greed bring them to the Stock Exchange market.
Then, as we say, Hell is paved of goodwill.
For now CDPRED seems good...

However, even a cooperative is not independant if it can not chooses its medias, or if it chooses only one: So many "indie" studios seem to be dependant of Steam..

Awesom3Pand4: Simple question.
Why does it matter? Are you looking for a definition of "Indie", or will it determine whether you buy the game?

Well, controlling shares still belong to the company's founders. So until they decide to sell out I'd say this still is a valid way to expand the company, gain more capital and influence. And without growth a company lags behind. Just look at the way GOG entered the Mac market - many people whine about how it doesn't affect them, but that's just egoistic entitlement speaking. I don't own a Mac, but I'm happy GOG and CDPR are exppanding, because in that way I know, they will be able to do what they do, but better - if we are to ever see any major Lucas Arts and EA old titles they have a long way to go yet. So I'm giving them the benefit of doubt and I'm happy that they're growing. If they ever betray my trust, that's when I'll change my tone.

I expect GOG to start shipping Linux games. Mac doesn't interest me, but it's good that GOG expand their supported platforms.

That would be the next logical step if marginal increase of revenue will be higher than marginal cost. Let's hope it gets profitable enough!
