This game was released free years ago, but ad supported. I have a copy of it, but it won't run because the ad server is no longer up. Is there any way to fix this? edit: nvm got it working.

Don't think this game is worth more than $5 on GOG since they previously released it for free. Needs to be a price drop before I consider paying money for a previously free game.

GOG tweaks games in order for them to be compatible with newer machines. Unlike Steam or other distributors, they use manual labor, in order to deliver a product, fully supported; this ain't no cashgrab or a "dump old sheet to make money from suckers", like most of other distributors' inventory!

And it is a very good game, as well. Silent hit, yet very well made; price is justified. I will wait for a sales though myself, since i already own the old, disc version...

P.S. And unlike other distributors, support here: a. works b. answers quickly usually c. provide you with working solutions

Dunno. from what I've seen GOG simply re-released the free edition without the ads and didn't bother to patch in widescreen support.

You can get the same game for free by downloading the free version, patching in widescreen, and removing the ads by using a different exe.

The sequel is the only game worth paying for.


Also, GOG Galaxy uses the absolute worst method of installing game shortcuts which are unchangeable, and clutters up the start menu by no longer installing games under a GOG sub-directory, but every game individually in the start menu. DOS games also use the worst rendering method and outdated DOSBox versions, requiring config tweaks and CVS build replacement for most games. Better than steam, but most games still aren't properly set up for modern computers and require some level of fixing to get working right.

I can agree with Entropy.971, wanted to write the same thing. I started a search for the free version but it was gone for good. Good deal for GOG though.

I couldn't agree more. People have the right to acquire the game by any means but I don't think GOG will tolerate piracy-related posts.

I wasn't talking about illegal versions or piracy, just about the fact that a few years ago you could download an official version of the game without charge. And yes, there were advertisment implemented.

Some time later, that freeware version became unplayable, because the online server from which the ads were, went down under. It could function again only when cracked... So it might be considered piracy. Especially since its (free) distribution, has long since ceased.
