I am completely new to the Settler series. Any suggestions on which one to start with?

Many people praise Settlers 2. I'd prefer the original over the 10th Anniversary Edition because it's more similar to Settlers 1 which I prefer.

I´d recommend Settlers2 aswell, i recently started playing the 10th Anniversary and its a very faithful remake imo, theres some useful additions like the notificcations system or getting 50% building material refund uppon bulldozing a building. I also assume that they ironed out some of the issues and bugs the game had when it originally released in 199X.
Settler 2 gold edition is a great play too. Guess it boils down to which look you prefer.

Settlers 2 Gold edition. Try, learn of your own mistakes, understand the ways to manage your supplies depending on the situations (mining, food, soldiers training...). Hard to master, great to play !
