These are my computer specs.

OS: Windows 8 (Not 8.1) x64
CPU: AMD A-Series Kabini Quad-Core 1.3 Ghz (Latest driver)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8250 (Latest driver)
Memory: 4 GB DDR3 532 Mhz

Other than that it's a pretty standard laptop with all the latest drivers for Adobe, etc.

Here is my problem though...

Settlers IV is pretty much unplayable! I'm getting 3-7 FPS max!
I've already tried all the in-game options for graphics and resolutions to no avail.
I've tried compatibility mode, reduced colors, etc.

Nothing works!

The only thing that helped me, although it's highly unreliable, is mounting through DXGL.
This however crashes my game after a random amount of time, so it's far from being a solution for me..

Please, help me tech-savvy forum lurkers, you're my only hope! :((

Hello, i have the exact same problem. I can start the settler IV but the FPS...
Radeon HD 8250 in my Laptop

Has anybody a solution yet?

It can be fixed by running it through DXGL - as per this guide here

The installer should be updated as out of the box it doesn't work on Windows 8, at least with some hardware configurations.

"S4_main.exe" is THE ONE!
I tried to get rid of the low FPS in Settlers IV and tried many different options in both the exe properties and in DXWnd, but I was using S4.exe... Then, after I tried with S4_main.exe in DXWnd, it instantly worked! No more low FPS! Finally! And I can choose the size of the window and all!
