With my Xbox One controller, as soon as I got into the game itself the camera started spinning madly.

The problem: The analog triggers are mapped to the camera, instead of the right stick.

The solution: Go into the game's installation folder and edit InputTemplates.txt

You'll see the game has definitions for 360 CONTROLLER and OTHER GAMEPAD.

I just copied all the stuff under 360 CONTROLLER to OTHER GAMEPAD (delete the original OTHER GAMEPAD settings, copy/paste) and now my One controller works fine.

Works a treat, thanks for this, appreciated!
Much obliged!
It should be mentioned that if you already started the game you'll have to go to MyDocuments\My Games\The Saboteur™\SaveGames\InputTemplates.txt and make those changes there as well. There is a similar solution on PC Gaming Wiki.

Thank you! This explains why making the change in the game files made no difference for me with a Logitech F710 in Xinput mode (has the same bug as the Xbone controllers). Now if I could just get the game to actually launch again...

Anytime. I always try to make sure that people go through as little trouble as possible to use a pad with their games. I found it vary strange that a triple A sandbox PC game would support direct input controllers in this age, especially with support for menu navigation. The last non-indie game that had level of native direct input support that I've played was MDK 2.

Also, could you describe the problem you have with running the game?

Already fixed it, see here:

Hello there,

I read this thread, and I got the impression this game works well with the original xbox 360 gamepad?
Thank yoi so much for letting me know.

Cheers
The game seems to run both XInput and DirectInput at the same time (360 CONTROLLER and OTHER GAMEPAD, respectively). Looks like RT is set to accelerate in Xinput and Turn Camera Right in DirectInput, which causes the camera problems the OP was talking about.

Whether you have an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller, the problem is solved when you delete the OTHER GAMEPAD settings from the InputTemplates.txt file.
In addition to what HikariExpress said, I got my F710 to work by unplugging it, starting the game, then plugging it back in once the game was running. But HikariExpress's advice is probably better.
I cannot find ImputTemplates.txt. anywhere. :( Looked everywhere. I did install the game thru Galaxy though, and I don't see and installation folder anywhere... advice?

I found another easy fix, just turn the controller on (or plug in) after the game starts.

If you open Galaxy's settings, it should show where it is installing stuff by default. I believe it is to C:\Program Files\GOG Games (I modified mine, so I don't know what the default is anymore).
Necro'ing here because this is the thread that finally helped me.

360 controller with no issues that anyone else had, everything worked fine except in menus it was like I was constantly holding "down". Looking at other solutions for spinning camera and such didn't help. I also didn't have an Input template in my documents folder for some reason. Changing the other section controls to NONE didn't help.

I was about to make a new post, which is why I'm putting it here instead with what fixed my problem.
I completely deleted the OTHER section at the bottom and copied the input template into the documents folder and crossed my fingers. Works just fine now, thanks people from the past.
