It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Also the download is, and maybe not for the first time, some 16GB. It would be appreciated if this could be reduced in the future - both with regard to download time and data written to SSD.

JudasIscariot: Are the two of you playing a new game or are you using an old save? Perhaps the issue here is the saves may not be compatible?
avatar
Vainamoinen: I've tried both; two saves in Book 1 and one save from Book 4. Same result :(
This is a wild guess, but did you use Galaxy or did you install the patch manually? I used Galaxy and things are working, both old and new saves.

Had I tried to squeeze 18 GB through my line, I'd still be downloading the Unity 5 build right now. No Galaxy, thanks. :) :) :)
Is it normal that Galaxy downloads 16GB while the manual download of the patch is only 122Mb?

I downloaded the whole game new after the unity 5 version came out (which was 18GB) and I'm kinda worried that every patch will try to download alot more than it should now... cause if that 'is' normal, I would rather disable automate patching and would patch manualy from now on. :/

Yes, though there is supposedly a UI bug where it doesn't always download the whole thing? Personally, I don't use it.

Charon121: This patch breaks my game. I can play Book 4 just fine without it, but once I apply it, I can't get past the loading screen. Rolling back the update fixes the issue.
This update caused the game to be stuck with a black screen that prevented loading a save or starting a new game. Upon selecting a save and clicking the Load button, or starting a new game and after the Intro description cinematic, the screen would turn black, the mouse cursor still is active, but no more key response and after 5 mins of this black screen, the game would crash with ntdll.dll mentioned in the appcrash report. Reinstalled the game but not applied this update and it works just fine.

Similar to my case, except at least I get the animated loading screen. Doesn't really matter, though, as I completed Book 4 without the patch and didn't experience any of the bugs the patch is supposed to fix. So I recommend everyone to just refrain from applying the patch unless they run into a bug that can't be fixed without the patch.
Same here. Stuck at loading screen... And i just started book 4 before applying the patch.
Thing is, the "don't apply it" doesn't really cut it since you see a patch, you expect it to at least work.
I didn't even think of looking at the forum before downloading.

Vainamoinen: I applied the patch, now I can't load my games any more (loading screen never vanishes).

I'll inform RTG of it ASAP.

The game depends on using previous saves for your choices. Old saves not working are kind of a nono for this kind of game :/

I'm getting some reports that rolling back to an unpatched version lets you load your saves again, but haven't had the time to verify if this works with the installer.

If any of you do, I'd be happy to hear some confirmation!

Yeah I ended up uninstalling the game (carefully selecting to keep my save files :P) and then downloading the build before the patch and it works again.

Thanks, that's a start. With RTG on winter break, not much else can be done at the moment. :(
FFS! What is wrong with developers these days? Each and every PC that I have with this patch applied refuses to load any SaveGame AND refuses to start a new game. It just sits there at the loading screen.

Has anyone discovered a fix ASIDE from re-installing the game and / or rolling back to previous version of the game?

Neither here nor on the RTG forums, I'm afraid. The only fix is to wait for the devs to come back from winter holidays. :(
I've tested the 4.1.1 patched version on both GOG and Steam, each on both Windows and Linux. Only the GOG Windows version exhibits this behavior, the other three of my test appear to work fine (Of course my testing is limited and there could new bug regressions, but these three versions do not hang at the loading screen or the totally black scrreen encountered when starting a new game with no saves). This seems to point to GOG's version of the 4.1.1 patch for Windows as the problem.
