Hey guys, sorry to bother, i'm experiencing an odd bug with some cutscenes, some of them actually play fine.
Now, i'm not far in the game so there might be more but until now i found that the Chaos Attacks and the one of the jukebox in the first chapter cutscenes play fine until the end of them, at the very end they freeze and start looping the last sound played. When this happens the only way for me to exit the game is opening the task manager.
When it happened the first time i thought i resolved it by disabling and reactivating the 3d accelleration and it actually solved the problem until the jukebox cutscene, i tried to solve the problem the way i did the first time but it didn't worked and now the chaos attacks cutscene freezes again even with the workaround i used previously.
If i skip the cutscene entirely i can keep playing but it's kind of bothering, i remember pretty much every cutscene so i know when they end and i can skip them, but still, if anyone found this problem as well and fixed it a bit of help would be much appreciated.
I'm running the game on Win 7 64bit with a gtx 660.
Sorry for my english and thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem, which boils down to this: Windows 7 is not supported. Sad, but there you have it.
Too bad, especially for people who never played this jewel, i can live with it because i already know the story and everything else but for a new player it can be really bothering.

It probably isn't Win 7 issue, because many people run in flawlessly on Win 7. Besides if you search The Longest Journey forums (http://forums.longestjourney.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13) you'll notice that there are threads about similar cutscene issues which are decade old. I would start testing with solutions which are suggested in the most recent threads there.

If nothing else help, you can always just skip the cutscene and watch that cutscene from some Youtube playthrough (had to do that once with another adventure game which kept crashing in a certain cutscene no matter what I tried)

It is a Windows 7 issue. I can play this game flawlessly on my Vista rig, and even people using Window 8 have working 'fixes' where Windows 7 does not. Windows 7, for whatever reason, is the only common denominator in the issue with cutscenes crashing the game.

You can easily test that if you still have old Windows disks. Just install Vista, XP or other older Windows version to virtual machine and test if the cutscene works there. If not then it's something else in your Win 7 rig which causes the issue. As it isn't happening to everyone with Win7 and it happens with other versions of Windows as well, I think there might be other underlying causes besides the OS.

Maybe. But I'm not going to jump through those kind of hoops. The game is officially not supported on Windows 7. That's a good enough reason not to.

Fine, that was just a one possible solution to your problem. You can always try tweaking with compatibility settings, graphic card settings and sound card settings. Three years ago I had to go with very specific graphic card and audio card settings to get the game work properly on my XP rig, so I know that the game can occasionally be difficult to get work properly. Back then the problems I had were because of Nvidia graphic card and sound acceleration.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, but I have spent literally hours doing those kind of things; I have also read through this very forum, trying all of the suggested fixes, all to no avail. I refuse to spend any more time on it until (if) it ever gets Windows 7 support. I don't understand why it hasn't already got this.
In case it helps anyone, the first cutscene was freezing for me. At the end, it would show April and then the sound would skip all infinite loop style and the picture should stop and I'd have to control alt delete the program. After doing some research, I unchecked the box for high definition videos under game settings from the main menu. Anyways, that fixed it for me. It might help you as well. I have an ATI 6850 if that's any help, and an i5 4690K... which should be plenty for the high def videos lololol but the game says it requires a Pentium II, and I don't have one of those. ;)
Hmm I'd not have an idea regarding freezes but for crashes I would. On my Sony i5 Laptop Win 8.1 transitions from cutscenes to in-game usually crash the game. Turned out to be a "too many cores" issue. Using the start command line tool with the /affinity switch can help.
I'm currently meditating on how and where to post more details.
I have the same problem. I have no fix, but you don't need to use task manager to quit. Just press Alt+F4 and choose no when asked to exit. This takes you past the cutscene. The sound will still loop in the background while you play, but you can at least save and restart without loosing anything.
I also had this issue, playing TLJ on Windows 7. The only thing that did the trick for me was to launch another program in parallel with the game. I used to launch a Linux Virtual Machine alongside with the game and with this setup I had no crash for any cutscene.
It seems that it is related with the speed and/or number of cores of modern CPUs. Hope this helps.
This worked to fix the problem for me on a Windows 8.1 machine ...

If you are running the game on a PC with multiple cores, change the "target" in the launch shortcut to the following.

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 3 game.exe

(Obviously you need to make sure the paths are correct for your environment.)

This will tell the game to utilize only cores one and two. Apparently, the game has issues with there being too many cores on modern machines. I tried using only one core and that was not sufficient. Two seems to do the trick.
