Just wanted to let people know since I didn't see any thread about it.

"...we’ll be releasing a new and updated version of the game (‘The Final Cut’) to coincide with the console release.

We’re very excited about this opportunity to revisit Chapters one final time. There are several improvements and changes we’ve wanted to make for years — along with requests and suggestions from our players and community — and we finally have the time and resources to address them.

So what’s new? There are changes to character art and animations, music, sound-effects, shaders, lighting — and gameplay. We’ll be talking specifics soon, and we’ll have more on the console enhancements and special features before March 24th."

I am intrigued.

Me too. And the rumor mill is churning, I can tell you.

We've expressed quite a bit of discontent with the way puzzles were eradicated in Book One with the Book Five update. So that would be a prime way for RTG to tackle the problem of interactivity in Chapters anew.

Second, we already know that at some time in Book 5, Queenie was supposed to make another appearance. Lines were recorded for that already. So there's a high probability the final cut has it.

Third, if you look at the console cover picture, there seems to be a "new" character on it on the farthest left. The character is pretty universally believed to be a redesign of Hanna.

Fourth, I've heard and voiced some rather bitter complaints as to the re-use of music particularly in emotional/central scenes. RTG would want to rectify that.

Fifth, after more than two straight years of hearing "no, there's no mini-map on purpose, it's part of the gameplay", we have received some signals that they're trying to change that, for better or for worse.

And last not least, there are still stretch goals and rewards to fulfill within the game. Alternative costumes and hairstyles being one of them.

So... indeed. Intrigued. RTG intends to unveil a bit of what they plan to do in the coming weeks. :)

A minimap and a redesign of Hannah would make me a bit worried, but the rest certainly could be nice. Specially the puzzles in book one, I get why they changed it but they butchered it too much.

Thanks for the information!
the only thing I wait for is:
Journeys Birth short stories (coming soon)

coming soon.... really sooooooon

The situation is this: RTG has a deal with Koch Media for the console distribution, so Koch Media will likely also print the Kickstarter rewards, and the short stories have a printed version for some KS backers. The Final Cut supposedly is sent to backers around the time the console versions launch. But it would be prohibitively expensive to send more waves of backer rewards out later this year. So it's reasonable to assume that the physical versions are sent with the backer archive disc versions of the game, and that's the time the GOG versions will also finally update.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to include minimap on purpose, but I like having the option to use it. If you don't like having the minimap, you could just disable it as I'm sure they'll be giving that option. Maybe the minimap won't be available right away, and will only show the sections that you've already explored, to be more realistic.
I tried the game today... the storytime part (that was awesome, and it was the best part of the game) now is cut to a tiny piece...
I paid for a game, now I have something else, this is really stupid. I will never buy a game before the full release again, and I will never buy a game from Red Thread Games

RTG was wavering in their judgment of the storytime part. On the one hand, they had plenty input from players who seemed to dislike/grapple with the controls and puzzles in this respect. On the other, I don't think I have seen a single person on the official RTG forums who welcomed the changes to the Storytime opening.

I'll wait and see what the Final Cut makes of it and whether it can and will present a more sensible approach to player challenge. As of right now, the beginning is just a downgraded and muddied version of the original.

Although I've come to hate "Extended Versions" which are severely boring in their additional half hour, cutting down the interactive parts of games surely is the wrong kind of trimming for me. :(

Yep, I don't really like the changes... I didn't have issues with any puzzles in the game, even the drawing hunting with Saga.
On the other hand, the core structure of the game needed work, and there were many story threads left untold (Mira and Hanna for example). So this "Final Cut" will be very welcomed. And I really like the idea of Hanna being redesigned :)
So where is the update? It was supposed to be out yesterday, but I see no information ANYWHERE.

On Steam forums there is a rumor that it was delayed until May 5, due to the pre-order delivery date changing for console releases.

If true, this sucks. I've just marathoned through the first two games again for this moment, and the story is getting cold already.
here are the links to the related threads at redthread and steam:

like we know it, no statement from the developer. that annoys me much more than the delay.
Agree with Cattie, this is BS. A delay is what happens, but at least come out and say it already.

I am in the exact same situation as onarliog. I had timed it perfectly and just finished the second game, so this is kind of a bummer.
May 5 has come and gone and there is still no news about the Final Cut it seems. I put off playing the game until the Final Cut was out but I can only find information about it from march. Do you know something about it?
may 5 was the release of the console version, theres only a "later" for the pc version. maybe end of this month or june, noone knows.
or next year...
