This seems to be a deliberate new visual style, something they've added to Arcadia. The colour palette in Arcadia is definitely warmer now. You can reduce the change a little by turning off Bloom if you haven't already. Arcadia seems to use bloom as a very heavy soft focus filter, now.

If anything I find the Stark scenes darker and grittier, the shadows are more severe and there's more details (like puddles on the sidewalk by the river now). It doesn't appear to be just down to the engine change, although thats part of it.

If only they could go back and improve the gameplay and story as well.

Couple of images showing the change.

To answer the question, there is no way to play Chapters in Unity 4 any more.

Unity 5 uses a completely new lighting engine, Enlighten. Basically, RTG had to completely reset every single light source in the previous Books to port the game. Cost them more than 150,000 $.

Results are a mixed bag, but I think there are more advantages than disadvantages. The performance increase is very visible on my system. I think that more detail and texture is visible. Then again, some of the blurs and filters are worse than before.

On the whole, thumbs up for me, but definitely with a tear in my eye.
I agree that it's a mixed bag. While I don't think that graphics are ugly per se, the new lightning looks different and not all effects look as good as earlier.

I hope that the future patches will smooth the effects a bit as some lightning effects are rather rough. But for now we'll just have to get used to the new graphic style, which is never easy when it's done at the middle of a playthrough, even if the overall effect is positive.
i thought the same when i first started book 1 again after the updates.. i played it all the way and didn't even realised that my graphic quality was limited to medium. that explains a lot to me and i haven't figured out a way to fix it yet.

The 4.1.1 patch incorrectly installs the 32 bit version of the game on 64 bit Windows. The 32 bit version limits the visual quality to low and medium.
