Kakarot96: That said, i was thinking again in this and wondered if the new daily challenge system they introduced for Halloween has something to do with the removal and if with redux they are going to introduce some kind of online check-connection and this was motive for dispute with GOG? I said in my last post that game was already DRM-free but maybe they are planning on changing it and perhaps including more daily challenges as a new mode? Or i am thinking too much now, probably xD

Fortuk: That would be doubly strange, as that would mean that they'd have to make a separate build for GOG that doesn't have those features. So they'd be putting in more effort than they were previously, without the chance to profit from it. That doesn't mean that what you say won't happen, just that I find the way they're doing this quite weird.
I have no idea, really. As i said probably i was thinking too much trying to understand the decision. I was saying that because the last Halloween event, which was only on Steam and you had to be online for it to count towards some new badges.

Anyway, if something like that happens, i don't think it's weird as you say given that they removed the game from here so in that case, there's no double/different build to be worried about, they will care just for Steam version and that's all. No double effort. But again, don't listen too much to me, it's all just random thoughts! ;D
Kakarot96, I agree with you on that. And yes it's indeed really disappointing because off the love you have for the game.

You are good in expressing this, thanks!

Tintler: Question from @StrangerFromTheInternet:
was really surprised when I heard that The Long Dark would be removed from the GOG store. Can you shed some light on what made you take this decision?

Just a business decision, like dozens I make every day.
"My bad idea machine, let me show you it"

I heard of this game before.. Reading about episodes being planned for the near future, I figured I'd wait for a deluxe edition or something. Well I guess I can forget about that. Not buying on Steam.

I love this game a lot and I bought it here on GOG so I'm really appreciating that they will update their existing customers here. It is super dissappointing that the game won't remain here. I was encouraging several of my friends to buy it on GOG.

I did notice in most updates at Hinterland the availability of the game here at GOG would be failed to mention. They would say it's available on other platforms, but didn't do much to advertise the fact you could buy at GOG.

And while they implemented the 4 days of Night on GOG one time, subsequent events were not available to players on GOG.

So I'm [EDIT: NOT] surprised but I am sad to see it go. I would have happily bought DLC for the game here in the future, but farewell game.

Honor the release of the first season of episodes on GOG and I'll be content. Thanks.

I add my disappointement to this new example of the gog's curse : the third world of the gaming """community""".

I had this game on Steam during E.A., and always waited for it on gog connect. Then (as I already did for a large amount of games) decided to pay it a second time only to get a little bit more rid of Steam, and... to late and too bad, another dev decide to change hi mind and get rid of gog.

I still maintain my best regards for this dev team, but kind of frustrated and sad to see another (and not the smallest) example of how gog customers (and gog devs prolly) suffers for just wating to make the gaming industry a little bit more free.

Capitalism is killing everything, and all those "property" locks are the best invention for profit, and the worst for creation.
I still can not find any reason why this game is no longer sold on GOG. I also had the game on my wish list for a very long time and now I realize that it is no longer there.

Is it up to GOG that more and more developers are taking their products out of GOG sales? TerraTech is there to call, just because of the multiplayer. Very sad.

Translated with Google.
According to Hinterland, it was a business decision. That's all the information we've got from either GOG or Hinterland.

Business logic ... remove game from GOG, thus giving them (GOG) less incentive to support current users, thus hoping current users will get so frustrated they will buy the game again elsewhere. Hinterland sells twice to the same user!

I like the game, but not enough to buy it twice.

I agree with you 110% on that. If GOG and Hinterland break their promise to continue to support the game, I most assuredly won't buy it again at Steam. I don't use Seam. Never will, and I'll probably not buy anything from GOG again.
If this happens with one game, it will happen with other games.
Not getting 4DoN to me, was a sign that things are not going to be on the up-and-up anymore. We're still waiting for 1.41 (which is now 1.44) to hit here even though it hit, what, December 21st or something like that on Steam? And we usually get it a week after? Well, we have two days before the New Year, where is it?

I was told on Twitter by Hinterland that we're still going to get updates here, but I'm not holding my breath anymore "waiting by the phone" for it to happen.

I do have Steam, but only use it for Paradox games like EUIV & CK2 (as well as for Civ 5) but I'm not buying it again that's for sure. It was just on sale there for 7.49 (from 29.99) and I passed on it.

If we don't get 1.44 by January 7th (or whatever version they're up to by then,) I'll assume we're not getting it at all.
I did a little searching the Internet and may have found some information as to why Hinterland (and some other game developers) have dumped GOG.

The search term I used was "game developers pulling their games from gog". I don't use Google to search with so one may get different results using it.

Oh yeah, gamergate. One idiot got all her game journalist friends to bring to the surface a blog very very very VERY few people knew about, to the forefront. Drama, gossip. Without searching, who knows her name?

Then Anita S, sjw horse plop exploded. And we as gamers are no better for it. Worse even, in the case of this game.

People make mistakes, no reason to bother them to death then piss on their grave. Oops, made a funny.

To quote someone whose name escapes me. "Gamergate. It was a reaction to an industry calling its customers sexist."

Personally, and I'm pushing rant territory, I support GOG and their owner, know who that is? Because sticks and stones, and I ate dirt as a kid.

Thanks for the info and leg work HawkDawg. We meet again!
And so the plot thickens...

I did not know or hear anything about this. Certainly does not put them in the brightest of lights, especially in this day and age where "PC" is just about everywhere and in everything.

I'm 67 years old and in my opinion, all this PC crap is ruining the world. I pity the young folks that will have to live with the results of it.
lol I wanted to buy Long Dark for my friend and I can't anymore. Oh well, he will have to pirate it then. Not sure who loses in this case :D
